About Gros Ventre Campground

Gros Ventre (pronounced ‘grow-vont’), means “big belly” in French, and the Gros Ventre Campground—surrounded by cottonwood trees and featuring stunning views of Blacktail Butte and the Teton Mountains—is truly magnificent! The campground’s location next to the Gros Ventre River offers some of the best opportunities in the park for wildlife sightings, as bison, moose, mule deer and a wide variety of birds are known to frequent the area. For avid anglers, the Gros Ventre River offers plentiful cutthroat trout, brook trout, and whitefish. While none of Gros Ventre’s campsites are on the river, all are within walking distance.The campground offers camping for tents and dry camping for RVs. Campsites include 279 individual campsites, 4 large group sites, and 39 electric-only sites, 10 of which are ADA-accessible. The campground is open from late-April to early-October.

Great big campground with amazing welcoming staff. When they sensed out respect of bears they lent us a bear spray for free.

Friendly, helpful staff on hand. The camp spots have good distance from each other and the restrooms were clean. Wildlife in the area and great fishing in the stream adjacent to the campground. Decent views of the Grand Tetons and relatively close to town.

Lovely site with great views and considerable shade. Easy access to bathroom, water, and trash/recycling. The hosts are very organized and accessible. Campground was quiet despite its size and had a nice forested buffer between it and the river for wildlife. There is room for recreation in the campground, on use trails along the river, and across the road. The extensive bike trail system in the park comes (for now?) within a couple of miles of the campground.

An amazing site! We stayed in three different spots over the course of about a week, and each of them were great. Clean, quiet, and well maintained. I respected the fact that the park managers/hosts were very strict about people leaving anything out - they would come around to monitor sites where no one was around and stuff was left out - as they've had bears come into the campsite recently. Bathrooms were great. You need to wash your dishes in a container and dump it into the dumping sinks at the bathrooms for the bears. Would absolutely come back!

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
