Porcupine Campground (WY)

Quiet clean campground that we enjoyed with friends. Nice pond down the road to fish in. Porcupine falls is about a 20 minute drive from the campground. Bathrooms were clean and water pump was functional.

The reservation system was a failure for us. We arrived at dinner time, about 530pm and another camper was set up in our reserved and paid for spot. All of the other sites were labeled as occupied. When we spoke with the host, we got excuses about not her having updated reservation info, not knowing that reservations could be made on Monday (4 days before our stay), and not knowing if the other sites would have people in them--even though they were marked as reserved. After almost 2 hours waiting for an answer about whether we could occupy a double site if no one else would be staying right next to us, we finally got word the double site was ours. The host also told us the person in our site was going to move first thing the next day. He finally moved at 1pm AFTER we got back from our hike. So, we moved into our site, set up our camp and finally ate our lunch. What we had planned to be a one-stop set up for two nights became a stressful and time wasting ordeal. Why even have a reservation system if the host doesn't have the whole story, or even know if the sites are actually reserved? I've stayed with Gallatin Canyon Campgrounds-run sites, and this was definitely not on par with the way they ran things in the past, and should not be allowed to be run in the future.

Beautiful campsite but failure on recreation.gov part as the site I had paid for online was already taken. The host said they had been having problems with the reservations. Luckily were one was nice and help and was still able to camp there.

Porcupine campground is perfect t for visiting the trails at Porcupine creek, bucking mule falls and medicine wheel. The high elevation location with cool nights provides a relief from the hot weather. There is adequate room between sites so it was quiet, the facilities were maintained and the well water was fresh. It is a short drive to Burgess junction where fuel and delicious meals are available. We will return.

The campground was fantastic. The sites were large, the views beautiful, and we had very little road noise. However, the camp host was the worst we have ever experienced. We booked our site 6 months in advance, but had someone in our site when we arrived. The camp host asked us to talk to them ourselves, saying she didn’t like to. Turns out, they were in the wrong site because she gave theirs away even though it was booked. When approached again, she recommended we take someone else’s site. We said we weren’t comfortable taking someone else’s, but she responded that her job was very hard and she didn’t want to do anything, but we were welcome to call some else. The people in our site graciously offered to leave, even though they had booked a site as well. When they approached her, she stated, “you’re making me uncomfortable by making me feel badly”.
It’s one thing to make a mistake. No big deal. But to force paying customers to fix it themselves and then insist it’s their fault for making her feel badly…unacceptable.
Fantastic campground all around, but have a back up plan for sleeping arrangements.

Website is not clear in description of this site. We reserved a tent spot so expectations were not high. Site did not have adequate parking for 2 vehicles, no table and no fire pit. We wound up going elsewhere and forfeiting our reservation dollars.
We’ve stayed on the mountain many times and until now we’ve been very happy

Nice quiet campground. Lots of wildlife. Hike to porcupine falls.

Very clean and well kept camp ground the space was large and the camp units are spaced out so we didn't feel cramped in at all. Lots of wildlife in the area
