The games keeper was the nicest person! I loved our experience! The campsite was extremely clean and the bathrooms were VERY clean as well! They did not smell nor had a harsh chemical smell. Overall, we loved this campsite and will be returning for another weekend of camping!

I had my heart set on seeing some trees, but my trip to Kings Canyon/Sequoia was cancelled due to the fires. I was able to get a spot at the last moment in this place and it was a very good decision. The campground is very scenic and the nearby hike offered a good mix of woods and desert landscaping. Loop B has hookups, but it definitely does not have any sort of rustic appeal, as there is no shade and a lot of large RV's with people watching TV all night. We ended up in A28, which did not have any hookups, but was very quiet and shaded below some gorgeous trees. Overall, I found loop A to have a much nicer feel if you are looking to escape the madness and disconnect for a while. The only caveat is that it is very quiet, with a mix of tents and RVs, so running the generator excessively will make you stand out in the worst way, even if it is allowed. We only ran it for a few hours a day, and never had any issues. I think A02 is definitely the best spot, but A03 and A04 are good, as well. A12-15 will have more road noise, since they are closest to the highway, but I would still say that any spot in A is better than any spot in B, unless you really need hookups. The restrooms were very clean and the overall condition of the campground was very good.
We arrived fairly late at night, driving in from LA via Prescott. The drive up 89A into the park was certainly no issue for a 25' RV, but I definitely advise taking the loop via Skull Valley and Iron springs, as opposed to the 89, when approaching Prescott from Congress, if coming up from southern California in an RV. Just make sure to fuel up in Congress, because there are very few facilities beyond that point and you will not pass any services at all on the north side of Prescott/Pioneer Pkwy. The 89A north into Jerome is also a bit tight, but still no issue for a skilled driver in a class C. Definitely not adviseable with a Class A until you get a real good feel for driving.

It was a fabulous week. Comfortable days and cold nights that were made for great sleeping in a tent and sleeping bag. Not many people on the trails which were absolutely peaceful and picturesque. Forest Service campgrounds don't get better than Potato Patch.

From Prescott, take U.S. Highway 89 north past Granite Dells, turn right on Hwy 89A and travel approximately 20 miles to the top of Mingus Mountain on steep, mountainous grade. Potato Patch Campground entrance will be to your left (across from the Summit Picnic Area) on Forest Road 106.
From the Verde Ranger Station in Camp Verde, travel approximately 20 miles northwest on Hwy 260 (toward Cottonwood). Turn left on Hwy 89A. Stay on Hwy 89A (watch for a second left turn), then follow the paved and winding mountain road through the town of Jerome and up to the summit on Mingus Mountain. This road is steep with tight hairpin turns and few pull-offs in Jerome or on the roadway. The turn-off to Potato Patch is on the right, across from the Summit Picnic Area.
