What Guests Are Saying

Koomer Ridge Campground offers a beautiful and spacious setting with well-maintained sites and easy access to hiking trails in the Red River Gorge. Most visitors appreciate the quiet atmosphere, clean facilities, and friendly hosts who are eager to assist. However, some guests noted issues with broken amenities and difficulty contacting the campground host, which detracted from their overall experience.

The host who takes care of this camp is wonderful. She stopped by the first night to check on us. She even delivered our firewood for us since we were buying a large amount. The bathhouse at Koomer Ridge was always clean. It was literally spotless. There wasn't even buy in the bathroom because they keep it so clean.
The campsite is a double space, has three poles to hang lights, etc. Clean fire pit. Beautiful campground. Lots of shade for site 54. Again, the host does a great job.

Thanks to the host and her family.

Good campground and well maintained sites. Hosts made sure sites where available when scheduled as well. Bathrooms could have been better taken care of but were 6/10.

Nice campground close to everything in Red River. The campsite hosts were very helpful and even let us change sites. You definitely want to stay close to the shower house as the pit toilets had no running water and were quite stinky. Some of the showers in the shower house did not work and one of the sinks was broken. There is some highway noise at night. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay very much.

Spot 27! An absolute unit of a camping spot! Not for the faint of heart. It’s a steep grade getting up to the spot, but worth it. Very secluded. Very spacious. Parking spot is a bit smaller than other areas, but manageable considering I solo camped and only had the one vehicle. Absolutely recommend! 4.5 stars!

I love this campground. I found it years ago by chance when I got into Kentucky late. There are many camp sites that are flat and family friendly. Personally I love that there is a mix of sites that aren't as easily accessible. These sites feel very private. They are raised or lowered from the road and very dark/quiet (besides the whip-poor-will that made it's presence very well known every night, but even that was therapeutic and beautiful). The only thing that could be considered a downside with the more private sites, is that there are flights of stairs to get up to the sites which could be tough for some people when you have to carry your equipment and food from your car to the site multiple times. We stayed at site 31 this last trip and it was perfect. There is trash disposal and a water spigot at the bottom of the steps. Stay at Koomer Ridge if you get the chance!

Very comfortable campsite that had the trash cans, bath house, and water spouts nearby. The picnic table and firepit were very convenient for making s'mores! We went to Auxier Ridge to Courthouse Rock trail which was a 10 minute drive from this campsite and it was a very scenic trail. Overall, I highly recommend Koomer Ridge Campground!

The site was exemplary. The grounds were very well maintained. We walked/hiked to both of the arches along well maintained, marked and safe trails. It has been a highlight of our holiday in the USA. The Recreation.gov campsites have all been very well maintained and a highlight of our holiday. Thanks to that work to maintain these sites.

The campground was very quiet and there was plenty of space between sites. Two of the water spigots weren’t working and the women’s bathroom near my site was closed.

Koomer ridge tent sites are great! There are large, flat, "crusher run" tiny gravel areas to pitch tents. Site 7 drains really well as we had a lot of rain, but never got muddy! The shower house was clean. Would definitely stay here again!
