Unfortunately it smelled so bad we shortened our trip and left early. Beautiful views of the lake but the facilities need to be cleaned so that it doesn’t smell so bad! Our worst camping experience using Recreation.gov!

The waterfront is trashed with debris from a flood that happened over 2 months ago. I was told it is not the state parks responsibility to clean the mess up yet we paid full price to not to get to enjoy the view or swim without climbing thru snake infested log piles.
The State park service and the core of engineers need to quit pointing fingers at each other and get it cleaned up !

From the moment I arrived, I was grateful for the welcoming and helpful treatment I received from the Attendant at the Check-in booth. As well as his going above and beyond professionalism and patience as he walked me through the necessary procedure needed when (at the last minute) I chose a different campsite, that actually fit my personal needs better.
The campsite was clean and ready, and it was pleasant to walk around the campground and see everything looking so nice and well maintained. The same it was as when I used to visit with my family as a child around 50 years ago.
However, I've always felt that the way you're treated by the staff can (at times) make or break your visit experience no matter where you go. In this case, my experience was completely stellar!

The campground itself is in a very pretty place, easy to find, and right on the water. With that being said there was a lot of room for improvement. First your reservation online isn’t where the Buck stops, what I mean is if you are a pass holder or a disabled veteran be ready to show your pass for a second verification on top of your original online reservation. If you don’t they won’t let you into the campground until you go back into the app and add whatever difference in money because they can’t fix payment at the check-in. Furthermore the facilities are horribly lacking. I watched folks stand in line for an hour to either use the ONE toilet or the TWO showers for an entire campground. The said facilities were disgusting and stayed dirty with no toilet paper for three days. The trash bins were overflowing and the fire rings looked like they had not been cleaned out in months. Overall if you are looking for a campground in a pretty place this can fulfill your needs but you better be in a camper with full amenities and very large tanks because this place is not accommodating otherwise. I love camping at Corps campgrounds because they are generally nice but this one is not.

One of the best places to camp, great sites, clean bathhouses, friendly camp hosts, two boat ramps, strong 5G signal (for Sprint anyhow ).
