Camp sites are spread apart with plenty of elbow room. Many sites are level but few do need leveling blocks or stands for motor homes. Group sites are separated from rest of individual sites which allows privacy for the groups. Beach access is one block north of park entrance. Will return to this campground several times. Cell phone reception is spotty, but does exist.

Beautiful area and very quiet campground.
The bathrooms need a major upgrade - no flush toilets - only porta potty's

Just back from a great 2 night trip. Read a lot of confusing reviews about this site so hoping to help future campers understand GS1. The site technically maxes out at 40 ppl but camp host says the real max she's seen is 25. we had 13 people in 7 tents, some with fairly large footprint that could have slept 3 or 4 - wouldn't recommend a group much bigger than that.
the site is up 10-15 stairs (wide cement steps with handrail, not very steep) from parking (7 spots). the main area of the site has 4 picnic tables, a large fire ring w grate, and a fire stove contraption but no bearbox. we had 2 tents set up in this area. up the hill from the main area was a grassy hill with some flat land where we were able to fit 5 tents (4 on the left really packed in there, one higher up on the right). The camp host claims that if you continue to climb up into the woods you'd find more spots to squeeze in a tent, but we didn't even try.
GS1 is the most remote of the 3 group sites and of the campground in general tho we did get shushed by neighbors at midnight, oops! GS2 and 3 are right next to each other but with wider spaces. for GS1 - there is a potable water spigot across from the parking as well as dedicated trash bins. the nearest vault toilet is located at group site 2, about a 2 min walk away. no plumbing toilets AFAIK throughout the campground. this site has a view of the ocean through the trees, and gets quite damp at night from sea mist. during the sunny days most of the campsite dried off. also there's a decent amount of poison oak throughout the campsite and all of big sur.
overall the campground was delightful. the camp host was super friendly and came around offering last call for firewood around 7pm (cash or credit card). campground is walkable to jade cove bluff trails for beautiful views, as well as sand dollar beach which is down a trail and set of stairs so not the most accessible but gorg. would absolutely recommend GS1 and plaskett creek in general!

Beautiful location and campground. Lucky to have it mostly to myself after dodging storm road closures. Scored waves to myself too.
