Eshom Campground

On the way to the camp site we drove through 100+ degree temperatures but as you get up in altitude the temperature drops significantly. At the site at 6pm it was around 80F then overnight it cooled to the point we used sleeping bags. Coming from the coast it was a nice surprise. The campsite was nice and functional with firepit and grill, bear cabinet, and picnic table. We were also pleasantly surprised by a little stream right next to us and a downed tree that we could cut up for fire wood. As with all of these National Park campsites we have a habit of getting noisy neighbors. But things quieted down by midnight. On the email it says to avoid the forest route and we did but others we camped with didn't see that notice and they got lost. There's no cell reception up in the mountains so when they tried to find alternate routes they couldn't. Long story short don't take the forest route. Even then the road is very curvy with lots of switchbacks, we counted over 150 curves. So if you're prone to motion sickness be prepared.

Our site was nice but the bathrooms smelled really bad

My family and I stayed at Eshom recently (July) for 2 nights and it was amazing. We stayed on sites 14 and 15 which are next to a meadow where cows graze (the cows walk through the campsites so you will see them and hear them at all times of day and night) its a beautiful sight and a nice walk to take early in the morning. Each camp site has a fire pit about 3’ in height, a large bear locker, and a picnic table. The entire campground is under pine trees and surrounded by grass. There is a nice creek you can hear running all day (creates nice white noise to sleep to). Our site host was Terri, she was super nice and informative, she came around the campground to check in on everyone and provide updates about the campgrounds. The campground is dog friendly but they must remain on leash. Most of our neighbors headed out to Sequoia National Park for the day and returned in the evening. Overall an amazing and beautiful experience.

vaulted toilets and no showers. Bring your own shower tent. Signage at the water access is a little confusing. Don’t wash dishes there or clean yourself but you can bring back a bucket of water to clean in your own camp ground.

Thoughts—
Camp grounds are definitely off the beaten path but what lacks ease of access you gain in vault toilet cleanliness and quiet campgrounds.

Tips-
Make sure your car is trail worth and with recovery gear and you can save 30+ mins to kings canyon or Sequoias by taking some Forrest roads, don’t follow Google Maps if your car isn’t and if you have city tires and isn’t lifted your average drive time is roughly 1:40 mins to the parks entrances.

I loved the site! It’s at the end of all the other camping sites which provides a bit more privacy; it’s a bit far from the bathroom (like a 5min walk). A creek runs on the left side of the campsite and is perfect to put your feet in. Some people in our group had 3 bars of signal and accessed all their phones features. Will definitely be coming back to this site.

Quiet, aside from the free range cows on the mountain, but excellent place to camp especially if visiting both Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Camp host was very nice and provided some navigational help with getting in and out of the parks.

Beautiful quiet site. Be prepared for an hour and a half drive to get anywhere from this campground. Zero connection.

Super clean bathrooms, small creek that runs through. Campos very helpful. Very Woodsey. The only downside is 40 minutes to Sequoia Park. From the main road, but if you have an off-road vehicle, you can be there in 20 minutes. And there is a redwood Grove within 10 minutes. I love my off-road Subaru.
