What Guests Are Saying
French Meadows offers a beautiful and remote camping experience with clean facilities, spacious sites, and easy access to a lovely lake for swimming and kayaking. Campers appreciate the quiet atmosphere and helpful staff, though some note that the roads can be challenging and the descent to the water is steep and rocky, making it less suitable for families with young children. Overall, visitors enjoy the scenic views, cleanliness, and tranquility of the campground.

Great campsite right next to the lake with lake views. The only two downsides being the drive up to the campground and the washrooms. All in all a positive experience.

There were a lot of good things about this campground, but overall it was just an ok camping experience. The campground host was great. He came through periodically throughout the day to check on everyone and make sure everything was good. There were folks that came through regularly to empty the garbage and clean the outhouse/restrooms. So the campground was a very clean one. The campsite I was at (019) was NOT ideally located. It was right next to the bathroom, garbage and water. No one in the campground knew how to close a door quietly, so it made for some loudness throughout the night. However, the campsite was right by the water. It was a 5 min walk to get to the shoreline. Of course the area was beautiful! Plenty of trees for shade. The water was calm and not too cold. It was hazy from the fires in the bay area, which added to the beauty of the lake at sunset. The major downside for me, was that there was no privacy in the campsite. There really isn't any undergrowth in the campsites, and no shrubs or smaller trees to at least give you the sense that there aren't that many people about. In my campsite there were so many flies, bees and yellow jackets. They wouldn't stop buzzing around my head - it made me crazy!

French meadow's was wonderful, the bathrooms were closed due to covid and water shortage so the porta-potty was gross (they always are lol). We had some extremely noisy neighbors (20+ people) who played music and screamed until 4AM but the camp host Michael was unbelievably kind and helpful. If the people weren't so roudy and didn't keep the entire campgrounds awake, this would have been the best trip. So I'd definitely recommend!!! Beautiful waters and nice shady camps.

Pretty location. No easy access to the river. Great fire pit setup.

I had an awful time here to where I only stayed for 1 of the 2 nights I had reserved and prepaid for which made for an awful birthday trip. I stayed at campsite number 47. Number 47 does get a lot of sun during the day if that is a concern for you. Also water at the reservoir is low at the moment so that with my disability/spinal injuries I could not reach it from the campground. I had to drive to the boat ramp in order to access the lake so that is an option for you if you are also disabled, but with the lake low it will still be a short walk, but it’s much easier doing it that way. Otherwise as an FYI you will have to put in some effort to get down to the shore from the campground right now. The bugs were insane to the point I could not eat without flies and bees directly on my food. I’m talking 10-20 bugs at a time on my plate. I’m allergic to bees so that could have gone very bad for me and I had to resort to eating in my tent. I’ve gone camping a lot and never have had such an issue with bugs. I know the campground can’t control that, but it’s just another thing to be aware of when choosing to stay here. I tried pouring bug spray everywhere and that did not help. I tried citronella which did not help either. My dogs were going crazy because of the bugs as well. They weren’t much happier being there either. They kept going to the car begging to get in and go which is not normal for them because they love being outdoors. The website states that water was available, but it was not. So definitely bring an ample supply of water. The bathroom directly next to my campsite was closed due to lack of water. Being disabled I now had to drive myself to the bathroom in order to reach the open one and pee near my tent at night and hope to God nobody saw. I would recommend getting a campsite near the vault toilets to make life easier. It was more work than fun being here. I gave up and left on my birthday bummed as can be and feeling like I had wasted my money.
