Cherry Valley campground is praised for its cleanliness, serene atmosphere, and beautiful Cherry Lake. Camp host JJ receives high marks for his helpfulness and dedication to maintaining the site. While it is remote and lacks cell service, the peaceful environment and well-kept facilities make it a favorite among campers.

The campsite itself is wonderful. Great sites, which feel private. There was no potable water (we knew that before arriving) but we were close to a stream and to Cherry Lake and had a great day swimming and enjoying the sun on the edge of the lake. You can either walk to the lake from the campsite, or take a short drive down the road to get to water sport activities.
The problem was getting to the campsite. If you phone you will get the instructions to make sure you take Cottonwood road as the other roads to the site are closed. However, there was nothing in the welcome emails or on google maps to tell us this. As a result we ended up on a closed, dirt road, not realising it was closed until way too late and wasting hours in travel time (beyond nearly getting stuck). Our friends were coming from a different direction and also ended up on a closed road without being aware of the fact. That information should have been in the email we received where it told us about the lack of water.
The closed road between Yosemite and Cherry Valley also meant what should have been a 30 min drive to get there was a 3 hour drive. That was unfortunate but no one's fault. Hopefully that road will be open soon, but if your plan is to go to Yosemite I'd phone and campsite and check first.

The road to Cherry Valley was closed due to road construction. I had my two young grand kids in the car already in Stanislaus National Forrest and had to scramble already late in the day to hustle for an open campsite. REFUNDS for Cherry Valley??

Very nice, clean campground. The manager was friendly and gave us tips on where to go nearby. The water spigots were shut off in camp, but there is a potable water fill station at Bear Creek Station in Toulumne (1 hr away, free).

Cherry Lake is a very nice campground with the campsites well spaced. Unfortunately there was no water available when we were there and no advance notice of the situation.
