About Deer Creek

Deer Creek Campground is located in California Sierra National Forest. The campground is tucked under dense fir and pines along the shore of Huntington Lake and offers scenic lake views, especially during the annual sailboat regatta. Boats can be moored near some of the camp sites. There are two loops to this campground: one is more heavily forested with more sites along the lake, and the other has more open and sunny sites with closer access to the resort community of Lakeshore. All sites have a view of Huntington Lake.

What Guests Are Saying

Deer Creek Campground offers a beautiful setting with clean facilities, friendly camp hosts, and great access to the lake, making it a popular choice for camping and outdoor activities. Many visitors appreciate the well-maintained campsites and ease of reserving spots online. However, some concerns were raised about limited restroom availability, occasional cleanliness issues, and the need for more campground options, particularly during busy seasons. Overall, it remains a cherished destination for many campers.

It was raining ash and the aky was dark and at 2pm from the wildfires when I arrived so I cancelled my reservation on the spot.

We stayed at Deer Creek Campground near Huntington Lake and really enjoyed our visit. The campground itself is beautiful, with great views, and the camp host was very friendly. The bathrooms were clean and well-kept, and we didn’t see any bear activity during our stay.

The drive in can feel a bit heavy, as there is still a lot of burn scar from past wildfires on the surrounding mountainsides. Our site, #26, was nice but very sunny with little shade—something to be prepared for if you’re camping here.

We had Verizon cell service, which worked but wasn’t great—just enough for the basics. We brought kayaks and had no problem getting them down to the lake, and we felt comfortable leaving them there when not in use. Do note that the lake tends to get windy starting around noon, so mornings are the best time for paddling.

Overall, it’s a beautiful spot with great access to the lake, clean facilities, and a welcoming host.

Everything was as expected. It was a very nice campground. The only thing I do wish is that they would do a little better job keeping the lake shores & campground trash free. But mostly the campground was real nice.

We always enjoy staying at Deer Creek. I wish they would open the other 2 campsites, Kinnikinnick and Catavee across the street so it would not be so hard to book a site at Deer Creek. then we would have options for the dates we would like to go.

There are two toilets working for the whole campground. No showers or electricity. Bathrooms were not cleaned regularly. On morning I went to use the head and the trash was overflowing and there was no toilet paper. Camp hosts were very disengaged.

We stayed in site 15, it was double site. We tent camp and there was plenty of room, shade, and flat space for us. We lived being so close to the water and the extra room of being in a double site. The camp host was amazing! He answered questions when I had them, assisted when our neighbor was blasting music at 8pm with their speakers pointed directly at our site, and even offered tips. Definitely hope to come back again next year.
