Just camped at Sherwin Creek for the third summer. Great campground, very quiet. My husband and I stayed in our trailer but our daughter and son in law stayed in a tent. Only one issue our kids had was that the bathrooms would be closed for half an hour for cleaning. They would walk over several times to use the bathrooms and they would be closed. Maybe a sign posted with times that the bathroom is scheduled cleaning would help. There was a lot of bear activity this time more so than the last two summers. A bear actually walked up to our site at night, past the campfire and grabbed a bag from the bear box and strolled off. Our fault for not closing it but it had no hesitation walking up to a group of 4 adults. They were also out during the daytime. We would stay again but be a little more observant next time.

We’ve camped in this campground annually for almost 50 years. The bear population is out of control, getting worse every year. The bears are getting bolder and more brazen, even during the day. My son was charged at by a very large bear one evening while protecting his 18 month old daughter and family while sitting by the campfire. Fortunately our dog was there to make a lot of noise and help scare him off. Very frightening. We, along with many other campers, have filed a complaint with the camp host about this problem and nuisance, but nothing is getting done about it. Hopefully it doesn’t take a tragedy to get a response.

This was our first visit to Sherwin Creek Campground. We came with our son, who has been there before so had no trouble finding the campground as we just followed him. We had reservations for two campsites and found both a very good size for our 21-1/2 ft trailer and car. The sites were clean and fire pit, bbq, and picnic table were well maintained. We also found the camp host to be very helpful.

The campground was peaceful, sites were a good distance apart and it was very dog friendly. Location is close to all amenities and activities in the Mammoth Lakes area, while still maintaining the camping in the woods feeling, plan on returning.

The campground is beautiful and the camp hosts keep the pit toilets really clean. Campers must secure their belongings, locking RV windows and using the provided bear lockers. There are several bears and Cubs that roam the campground day and night. Not too concerned with people but they don’t like dogs barking at them and move along quickly. Beautiful but be warned. Don’t leave food or garbage out of arms reach.
