The camp hosts are very friendly and the location is great for fishing! The sites are not great, especially on windy nights.

The day I arrived, the campground was at capacity with wildfire refugees who had been smoked out of the campsites they intended to stay at. There are two campground hosts and the one I dealt with was a woman who was brusk, unwelcoming and hurried. Of course, consider this in the context of the info I shared above. I later spoke to the other host, an older man, who was incredibly nice. The campsite itself is a bit of an eyesore (feels like an RV parking lot), but if you walk just a few feet to the lake, through the trees, all of that ugliness melts away. The lake, which is not visible from most of the campsites, is spectacular and the mountains that tower over the campground are majestic. Despite some of the "cons" I experienced, there are enough "pros" to keep me coming back. Pro tip: Reserve a site on the outer perimeter of the campground, adjacent to the lake. This is obvious now, but it wasn't so clear when I looked at the site map for the first time.

We absolutely loved our visit to Silver Lake/June Lake Campground! We rented an RV for the weekend and spent 1 night at June Lake. We were not even a little bit prepared for the -3F that it was that night but we huddled up, layered our clothes, and woke up to such an incredible scene: The lake itself had frozen at the edges and a fog was rolling off of the lake as the sun finally shone down from beyond the surrounding mountains. It was so beautiful we had to take a picture straight away and it is my favourite from our entire trip. Absolutely serene, calm area! Definitely come prepared! I didn't realize how high the elevation was but if we had brought more comfortable clothing/bedding, we would have been in absolute heaven.
