About Manzanita Lake

Manzanita Lake Campground (elevation 5,900 ft.) is the largest campground in Lassen Volcanic National Park. It is within walking distance of the scenic Manzanita Lake, a popular fishing and family destination, and offers impressive views of Lassen Peak, the largest volcano in the park at 10,457 feet. The facility is conveniently located one mile south of the park entrance, close to The Loomis Museum, Loomis Ranger Station and popular hiking trails. Educational programs are presented at the museum and amphitheater.

We have been camping at Manzanita Lake since 1998. It’s a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature and commune with friends. The amenities can be a bit rustic at times but the Park itself offers so much to those who enjoy the Great Outdoors. Manzanita Lake offers catch and release fishing and great watercraft adventures. Wildlife like ospreys, bald eagles, nightjars, and bats frequent the lake as well as deer and sometimes otters! The Loomis Museum and associated gift shop are a good tourist destination. There are hiking trails that start right in the camp itself, and observing the incredible starry nights from the Snag area near Loop D are a family favorite for us. There are also Ranger led programs and a Junior Ranger program for the kids.

There was a SEVERE lack of enforcement of the rules and literally NO camp hosts to answer questions. Definitely disappointed with the direction the NPS is going.

Shower system absurd: $5 to get the door code (very expensive when you are by yourself and staying only one night!!!!) and then you can stay hours under the shower! Not at all appropriate when water is scarce and need to be protected!
And buy your wood outside the campground, way too expensive at the campground shop.
Otherwise, the lake is nice and you can rent kayaks.

Comfortable campground. Camp sites were large...didn't feel like our neighbors were right on top of us. Overall, people were very quiet and respectful. Bathrooms were clean and well kept and was great to have the availability of showers. Loved the easy access to Manzanita lake and great hiking trails right from the campground.

Policies & Rules

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
