Manzanita Lake

Very close to the lake, nice area and decent amount of people and amenities around.

An individual was running their generator well past the generator hours, and so we went to talk to the camp host and ask that they educate the camper regarding the generator hours, and instead of her being helpful she proceeded to use profanity, degrade us, and then slam the door in our faces. We spoke with Park staff the following day And did not get an indication that they felt that this person should be reprimanded in anyway so we sent some very official emails and I am including this information in my rating based upon the fact that we spoke with other campers who also had similar experiences with this camp host. She should be fired. No one with her personality and flawed Character should be representing my nation’s national parks. People should be hired to enforce the rules instead of expecting that campers are good Samaritans. You have tons of individuals visiting from many other countries and they need to be educated about the expectations of visiting our national parks. Instead, we were made to feel like we should approach the individual with the generator running, and that is not my job. If the national Park service can’t hire people to do the appropriate jobs and how can we justify keeping our national parks for the good of the public?

We love the camping and the proximity with the lake (we were on site A40). We went kayaking on the lake and enjoyed the beautiful view of Mount Lassen. The bathrooms were clean. There are also showers next to the store at the entrance. The person at the store was really nice too.

Great camp, well maintained. Ground is somewhat dusty, but that is expected, naturally. My site was shaded most of the time (but you are expected to hike/drive during the day so that is not a big deal in any case). And a reasonably short drive to many Lassen Park attractions. There is even a free WiFi nearby at the parking lot at Loomis Museum at Hwy 89 if you feel disconnected. Will stay again on my next trip to Lassen.

Spot has a nice clear view of the sky if you need to connect to Starlink. Due to the tall tree surrounding the spot there were only a few hours where we had solar so we did find ourselves topping up on the generator. The front of spot is a bit lower so we just barely got level without placing out anything.

Beautiful location and so much to do. We loved kayaking & walking around the lake. It was nice to have the general store to grab any extras and enjoy some ice cream. Lots of different hikes to explore.

During our stay, campfires were not permitted due to high fire danger. This is understandable, but it would have been nice to have been informed of that prior to our arrival by email. Most campers were disappointed in not being able to have a campfire and some may not have made the trip if they had known. Also, there was not information given at check-in about generator hours, etc. and there was no campground host.

Overall, the campground is beautiful, busy without feeling crowded; sites are clean and spacey. The lack of staffing is disappointing, blame is where it belongs and not on the underpaid, overworked individual we did finally see hours after finding our spot. Unfortunately, our first interaction was to be warned we were violating the oddest generator hours I've ever encountered in my LIFE - 8-10am, 12-2pm and 5-7pm. We do our best not to run at all but with the heat we were having issues with a fridge and slipped over the hours by 7 mins.

Rather than rage about the lack of staff I've engaged with National Parks Conservation Association [https://www.npca.org/]. Our parks, and the staff in them, deserve better
