About Manzanita Lake

Manzanita Lake Campground (elevation 5,900 ft.) is the largest campground in Lassen Volcanic National Park. It is within walking distance of the scenic Manzanita Lake, a popular fishing and family destination, and offers impressive views of Lassen Peak, the largest volcano in the park at 10,457 feet. The facility is conveniently located one mile south of the park entrance, close to The Loomis Museum, Loomis Ranger Station and popular hiking trails. Educational programs are presented at the museum and amphitheater.

Large, shaded tent sites. A quick 2 min drive to the camp store, showers, and lake! Showers do cost $5 a person but are hot and not timed. A fantastic place to base yourselves for exploring the park. Dont forget to check out the night sky. Best stargazing ever!

We had the best time. The lake was very easy to get to from the campsite. The camp store and showers were also super easy to get to. Definitely check out the museum and visitors center. The kids were able to learn about the different types of volcanic rocks and we found out that there was a lave tube hike nearby.

Wonderful family camping trip despite the open fire ban which we completely understood. Disappointed though campers in loop D ( we were in loop C) on our last night did have a fire in the late evening. Reported it next morning to ranger station. Can’t with to camp here again.

There was no ranger or camp host to provide any guidance. We relied on the general store clerk to provide information, and she was clearly annoyed with any questions. Eventually, we just drove up to the site we booked. No one checked.
The convenience stations are very spread out, which explains why we saw so many people washing their dishes at the water pumps outside. Thankfully, we saw no wildlife drawn to this.
Despite signs posted literally everywhere prohibiting such, there were many campfires throughout the site. We informed the general store clerk who told me to call a ranger. After explaining we have no cell service at the site, she replied “I guess I can do it then.” No ranger ever showed.
This site is neglected. It’s at high risk of fire danger and someone getting hurt. We would expect more from a National Park.

Very good but site B33 walk in did not have a defined parking spot, nor a defined path to it. So it felt like I was walking through other campsites getting there. And there is a need for quiet opening bear proof containers everywhere as it disturbs people accessing it early or late. Much nicer crowd of campers than at the Motörhead dominated dunes sites in OR.

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
