Each tent site is too close to other tent sites. At night, our neighbor site had dog barking thru the night so we could sleep well. We expect the camp master shall do something about it. Probably, pets shall not be in the campground? Other than that, the camp store facility and hot water shower at camp store are fair.

Beautiful place with so much to explore. Lakes, snow, and volcanoes! Can get cold so bring layers. Has an option to shower at the camp store. Can get super busy and crowded on certain holidays. Very beautiful place!

Beautiful, convenient, safe. Highly recommend. We very much enjoyed our stay under the trees, near a lake and with a view of Lassen Peak. Access to a sink for dish washing & flush toilets IN the campground were a plus. In addition, there was a store, showers and a museum staffed by rangers nearby. Yes, there were bears, but we were armed with the information we needed (and a bear box) to keep safe.

Masterpiece of Fire and Ice

If you want the jagged granite peaks of the High Sierra mashed up with the volatile, steaming underbelly of Yellowstone—minus the crushing sea of tourist buses—Lassen Volcanic National Park is your holy grail. Situated just a shade over two hours northwest of Reno, this park is a masterclass in raw, cataclysmic geology, dramatic alpine contrast, and sheer rugged beauty.

Lassen is one of the few places on the planet where you can stand on the jagged rim of a massive plug dome volcano, look down into a stark field of painted cinder cones, and look out across pristine, sapphire-blue glacial lakes all in the same afternoon. It features all four types of volcanoes found in the world (plug dome, shield, cinder cone, and composite), making the landscape feel like a living, breathing textbook of earth science.
For hikers who crave a visceral experience, the trails here deliver in spades. You can grunt your way up the relentless switchbacks of the Lassen Peak Trail to stand at 10,450 feet, where the wind howls across shattered dacite boulders and the views stretch from Mount Shasta all the way to the Coast Range. If you want something a bit more surreal, the trek into Bumpass Hell drops you right into a roaring basin of boiling mud pots, steaming fumaroles, and turquoise acid pools that hiss and belch sulfur into the crisp mountain air.

For photographers, the light here is pure magic. The contrast between the stark, dark volcanic basalt, the rich rust-oranges of the mineral-stained earth, and the neon-green lichen growing on old-growth Jeffrey pines provides a palette you won’t find anywhere else in the Sierra. Catching the golden hour from the shore of Manzanita Lake, with Lassen Peak perfectly mirrored in the glassy water as the setting sun turns the summit a brilliant, glowing crimson, is a spiritual experience for anyone behind a lens.
It is rugged, it is volatile, and it remains one of the best-kept secrets in the National Park system. If you haven't explored Lassen yet, lace up your stiffest boots, pack your neutral density filters, and get up there. It’s a five-star volcanic wilderness sitting right in our backyard.

  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
