This was probably one of the best camping experiences we've ever had. The campsites were clean and simple (ample room for our vehicle, good tent space, picnic table, fire pit, and bear locker). We were in the tents-only loop, which I of course can strongly recommend, but we also noticed that this South Loop CG was not at all packed with obscene trailers and RVs. It was quiet in our loop perhaps because we were also just over the rise from the cross-park highway. Our camp neighbors were all friendly and quiet. How lucky we were to be here.
One of the most interesting parts of our stay was being right on the line between the fire-scarred landscape and green forest.
The lake was great for a cool-water swim!
Stargazing in this relatively remote location was great.
The toilet houses were exceedingly simple, but that's exactly what we wanted.
We visited many of the park's attractions while based at this CG; one of the highlights was the hike to the summit.
All in all, this was easily one of the best camping experiences we've ever had, and we would definitely return someday.

The campground is adjacent to a picturesque lake in a beautiful spot, even after recent horrible fires. Site 9 is one of our favorites because the parking spot is big and you have the lake and its trails right next door. Our only two complaints: (1) the campground was completely packed, and there were about 15 people cooking, talking, and laughing well past midnight next to us (and they didn't use bear storage), and (2) the information online said that this campground had drinking water, but all the water faucets in the campground had "no drinking - nonpotable water" on them, so that could have been really bad if we didn't have enough on our own.
