Absolutely beautiful campground.

If you camp closer to the river it is fairly quiet but if you camp on the part closer to I-80 it's very loud. You can hear all the tires, all night.
It was very clean and I love the little hideaway camp spots. There's a lot to explore and the river is fun.
I want to note that there was someone camping near the river with dogs tethered and my daughter ran too close to their campsite trying to get to some rocks and their dogs went after her. Not barking, they were trying to attack her. I understand she shouldn't have ran up to their space, and that was discussed with her, but the fact that people took attack dogs camping is a little scary.

I would not recommend this camp site for a weekend trip. We stayed here solely out of practically (it was close to our backpacking trailhead). Unless it’s the closest thing you can find to Lake Tahoe, it’s not worth it. The traffic is incredibly loud (we were at site 17 which is further away from the highway) and my husband and I had to talk really loudly just to hear each other at 10 PM.
If you are going to stay here, site 17 was probably one of the better ones as far as privacy and closeness to the bathrooms.

Some sites are better than others but our spot was extremely close to the highway, which made us feel we were camping on the shoulder of the highway.
Spot 8 was decent, you could still hear cars but at least being close to the water made it somewhat worth it.

For Covid camping, this was pretty ideal. Pit toilets and water faucets easily operated with an elbow. Many of the sites were closed for future tree removal, so that made it a little emptier. The river is small in August, but it was enough to be enjoyable. The sound of the freeway and trains was constant, but in a loud, white noise sort of way -- easier to sleep with than rowdy campers nearby. No firewood available on site. Bathrooms seemed to be cleaned every day. No bear containers -- so we locked food up in the car. In non-Covid times, it wouldn't be an ideal spot for us due to the pit toilets and freeway/train noise, but still a nice spot for a weekend in the woods.

Campsite ridiculously small and overgrown; no access to the water. Sites close together. Massive freeway noise.

Beautiful campgrounds but road noise spoiled it.

The freeway noise was loud, but with the right company it didn't seem to matter. We had a great time!

I loved the river spot. It was only 5 min drive from the gas station market. Bathrooms were clean. Freeway was close, but the river spot was so worth it.

Everything was good. Other guests were quite. The campsite is very close to the highway. I thought it would get quite at night but it was still loud all night long due to many trucks using the highway.

From Truckee, Calif., take Highway 80 west 17 miles. Take the Rainbow/Big Bend exit. If westbound, turn left under the freeway to the campground entrance. If eastbound, turn right at the stop sign.
