What Guests Are Saying

Indian Springs offers large, well-maintained sites with clean bathrooms and a friendly camp host, making it a great spot for family camping with kids and dogs. Many visitors appreciate the spaciousness and fun water activities, especially in warmer months. However, some guests have noted significant highway and train noise, which can be disruptive, particularly for tent campers.

Site 6

I was there over the Memorial Day weekend and the campground was full but absolutely very site around me was quiet and beyond respectful. I know people say the noise from i80 can be a bit much, but my site is as close as can be to the hwy and that early in the year I hear the river as much as the hwy. So it has never bothered me in the past. The bathrooms were well supplied and clean. There wasn't a host when I was there but the forestry crews are always a pleasant sight and friendly people.

Way too close to the freeway. Who thought this was a good location for a camp grounds? I thought other reviews were exaggerating. The grounds are literal 50 yards from the I80 For our entire two day stay my partner and I had to speak at a 8/10 on the volume scale just to hear each other for the entire trip, day and night. Also the train passes every two hours and sounds it's horn each time it passes the camp grounds, even at midnight, 2am and 4am. If you are looking for a camping spot where you feel like you are camping under the I5 in Sacramento this is your spot. It is also right across the street from an OHV area, so in those rare moments where you can't hear the I80 you hear quads and razors. The grounds are well maintained though.

This is a great campground as long as you don't mind the noise from the road / train tracks. It's in a great spot for getting to tons of trailheads, and there are plenty of nice trails to walk right from the campground. There are also several spots for swimming within a 2 minute walk of your campsite!

Beautiful swimming hole, clean bathrooms for being pit toilets and close to a ton of great exploring options.

Arrived on a Tuesday afternoon to find our campsite covered in trash and other debris from previous users. No oversight in making sure your site is in good order before you arrive. I would not recommend. The highway noise is minimal and river access easy, but the condition of the grounds or maintenance needs improvement.

Great access to a swimming hole, cell phone service, but otherwise one of our least favorite spots. The noise from the freeway didn’t bother us, but I can see how that would disturb your nature experience. The campsites are very on top of each other - the group next to us had at least 20 people on one spot, so it was kind of a bummer. Quite a bit of garbage at the site and the swimming hole. We didn’t see a camp host. Bathrooms were rough. We ended up going to Onion Valley/North Fork area and had a great experience there.

We made reservations weeks in advance and when we arrived late to our campsite, it was marked as open. Thankfully no one was in it. We setup in the dark and the next morning realized the campsite was completely trashed. Shoes, socks, food wrappers, plastic water bottles in the fire pit, and food all around the picnic table. Still highway noise from the upper loop but not bad.

Noise from the freeway was not bad for me(mostly deaf) but others may find it not so good at night

Person was parked in our campsite until 7pm, which is not recreation.gov's problem, however, i searched for hours on who I can call and no phone number listed or contact information I could find to assist with the issue. The number to rec.gov for this campsite (which is the same number for all campsites in the area) was out of service. Should have at least 1 number to call to report an issue.

No Show Policy
A no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival date (or for day-use facilities, by check-in time the day of arrival).
* No-show customers are only recorded at staffed facilities. At most remote facilities, all customers are noted as automatically checked-in on the date of arrival.
* It is recommended that staffed facilities hold a campsite until check-out time on the day following the arrival date.
* It is recommended that staffed facilities hold group day-use facilities until check-in time on the arrival date.
There is no change fee if a customer extends or shortens a reservation if the change includes dates from the original reservation. If they choose to depart early, they may forfeit some or all of the recreation fees.
There is no change fee if the customer changes campsites that are the same price and on the same reservation dates in the same campground. If the campsite the customer is changing to has a price difference, the customer will be responsible for any additional fees or be provided with a refund, based on the price difference.
Where recorded, no-show customers are assessed a $20.00 no-show fee and forfeit the first night's recreation fee for a campsite or forfeit the entire day-use recreation fee for a day-use facility. We recommend customers contact the facility if they are en route to their reservation but cannot make it by the check-in date. In these cases, no refund will be issued, but the facility can ensure that a "no-show" fee is not assessed.
