What Guests Are Saying
Rocky Rest Campground offers stunning views, particularly from site 7, and features clean facilities, great access to a beautiful river, and excellent hiking trails. The small size of the campground contributes to a peaceful atmosphere, making it a favorite for those looking to relax by the water. However, guests should be prepared for potential noise from traffic and a significant mosquito presence, which can impact the overall experience.

Beautiful campsite right by the water. A bit noisy due to all the people going past to access the water.

Great Vista Spot at Campground 8 with the N Fork of the Yuba River. Excellent shade and large spot. Bear Box worked well but was mostly I sun in afternoon. But was good to have it for overnight hrs. One things somebody was trying switch placards from one sit to another even with us reserving somebody added another placard with different name behind ours. Not sure was the party with name Lucia but had like 4 sites with same name. May have been the Ranger ikd. But spectacular area and a great spot to camp. Just be sure to bring plenty of water. No spicket or running water. A epic and a great trip.

Additional portapotty unnecessary and not aesthetically pleasing. Trash containers were all completely full and no one came to empty them while I was there. Otherwise nice.

All of the campgrounds along this string are excellent. One of our favorites if we are looking for car camping with plenty of side activities.

The mosquito fire made it impossible for us to travel to the area due to hazardous air quality π

I stayed at campsite 3. It is close to the road where cars drive by on Hwy 49. Pulling in and pulling out of the campsite takes a bit of navigating especially if you are backing in. There are a lot of mosquitos in the area in the mornings and at dusk. This campground is a destination for visitors who are there to recreate at the river for the day. Parking can get congested and the river area crowded. The campground restrooms are cleaned and stocked every morning by the USFS, However on my last morning there both campground restrooms had not been serviced and both had no toilet paper when I departed at 11am. Overall this is an excellent campground with river access and nice campsites. If you prefer a less crowded experience you may prefer to stay and camp on weekdays over the weekends.

This gets 3 stars rather than 5 because of the porta potty. Some number of years ago the pit toilet in the site 5-10 loop was replaced by a porta potty. Problem is that there is only one serving the entire loop (potentially 36 people) and it is cleaned only once a week. This is not enough cleaning for this many people over this much time. I work in construction. I know these things.
It was cleaned on Monday and by Thursday is was unusable due to the stench. The National Forest Service needs to either spring for a second (or perhaps third) porta potty or have the single one cleaned more often.

Really loved this campgrounds river access! The road is loud but the river noise helps it. The worst part was the first pit at site 8 is completely destroyed :/ hopefully they fix that soon.
