What Guests Are Saying
Rocky Rest Campground offers stunning views, especially from site 7, and features clean facilities and great access to a beautiful river for swimming and hiking. The small size of the campground contributes to a peaceful atmosphere, though it is near a busy road which can lead to noise during the day. While mosquitos can be a problem, with proper preparation, visitors can enjoy a rewarding outdoor experience, especially at night when the sky is spectacular.

It's great being so close to the river, and have places to drop off trash, and close to a cool hiking trail
I couldn't find the bathroom

Nice spots that were not too close together, they have 10. Only had one place to get water, one Porta potty and one vault toilet. My only compliant is it is also a day use area for the river, it was really crowded and people were parking everywhere. The toilet was disgusting by Saturday. Would definitely stay here again during the week days.

Site six was great because you are on higher ground, above other sites so it’s more private. It’s also right next to the bridge that leads you down to the swimming holes/river. Super sweet. Clean bathrooms as well.

Quiet, lovely view of the river. No cell service at all. Wonderful hiking across the bridge. Great swimming holes within easy walking distance. A particularly beautiful location.

Why would I encourage more visitors? The highway 49 corridor campgrounds have become so over crowded it sometimes no longer feels like camping. I have been going to this area since I was a kid of about 10 (forty years ago) and I miss the rugged days of an actual rock fire pit and no paved walkways to the rivers swimming/fishing spots. If you want quiet and serenity, go somewhere else as I now have to do.

Beautiful spot near an outstanding swimming hole. We stayed 4th of July weekend so it was a bit rowdier than normal. The bears were also active, heard them very close to the tent each night. Take all precautions, use the lockers for EVERYTHING and you’ll be fine!

We picked a *hot* time of year to visit (Sept) but the cool, clean, clear water of the Yuba washed away some of the discomforts of the heat and left us with the notion that even with as little privacy as was accommodated by the arrangement of the individual sites, the experiences and personalities happened upon more than made up for the "cons" on this review. As is always the case, those you encounter play a big part in the level of enjoyment of the destination!

Rocky rest was a lovely campground. Access to the river is less than a five minute walk away from the campsite. We stayed in site 6 which is up a hill a bit in the center of the campground. This afforded a good amount of privacy which the other sites didn't really give. Would definitely stay again.
