Halloween Weekend camping! This was such a fun, (and let's face it) MUCH needed escape from the world!! This was our first time at Oak Grove & won't be the last! The site was beautiful, shady and had pretty great access to a a lot. Ribbonwood loop indeed has flushing toilets! We saw rabbits, lizards, a giant weird potato bug and a literal flock of wild turkeys!!! We couldn't see them, but you could hear ducks in the nearby pond pretty much all day. At the hottest time of the day, you'd see ants flocking to the dogs' water bowls; but not fire ants, so cool. It was really, really dry and dusty; which is probably just the season, but it was definitely dry. Unfortunately, the nearby trail heads were still closed because of fire season, but we made do, to keep ourselves entertained.
The camaraderie of the host, Rick, (I see why everyone loves this man!) and other campers was SO great!! Probably the best! Being Halloween, lots of folks were dressed up and we all kinda did little parades around the loop, it was a lot of fun. Everyone stayed with their own groups, we were all socially distanced and still had a great time being dressed up and shouting Happy Halloween to everyone we saw. Only about half the sites were filled (a covid measure) but honestly, it was so perfect and quiet and we really enjoyed ourselves. A one-of-a-kind experience for us all, I think?

It was super hot and our space didn’t have much shade but we still had a good time. The bathrooms were very clean with the exception of one stall. The host was very kind. We had a lot of ants :(
