Buckhorn

Our recent three-day camping trip at Buckhorn Campground near Black Butte Lake was great fun. The campground's cleanliness and serene atmosphere provided an ideal setting for a relaxing getaway. We particularly enjoyed the tranquility of the surroundings, as the campground was relatively quiet during our stay.

We selected site number 7 for our 32' RV, appreciating its decent views and ability to accommodate our RV. However, one aspect caught us by surprise: the orientation of the RV sites in relation to the road access. Sites 2, 4, 7, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16, including ours, have their door facing the roadside due to the campground's directional access policy. This meant that instead of stepping out onto our campsite, we had to exit onto the road, which was an inconvenience and somewhat of a safety concern.

It would have been helpful if this information were communicated on the booking site, allowing campers to make more informed decisions regarding site selection. Knowing in advance that certain sites would position the passenger-side door toward the road would have influenced our choice, as we prefer to exit directly into the campsite area and use the awning and lights.

Despite this small inconvenience, our overall experience at Buckhorn Campground was positive. We enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, and the cleanliness of the facilities enhanced our stay. We hope the campground management considers updating their information to include details about site orientation, ensuring a more seamless experience for future campers.

We look forward to returning to Buckhorn Campground in the near future and selecting a site where we can access the campsite from the RV door.

We absolutely LOVE buckhorn we have been going here for YEARS since 2013. Unfortunately the new ranger rick is a total jerk and some of the camp-sights in loop 1-22 they make you park where you cant face your trailer door towards your camp-sight. This is VERY dangerous and they could be SUED, because forcing the back side of a travel trailer into the camp sight where your having to run your generator in your camp sight is a HUGE fire/ safety risk rather than running it on a paved road out of the camp sight. Also with your trailer door facing the road, your lights and awing are forced to face the road you have no clear path to your camp sight and could easily fall and get hurt at night. Forcing children to exit a camp trailer onto the road rather than the camp sight is also a liability on the parks behalf. So be aware that in some sights you wont be able to park your travel trailer facing your sight, the ranger will absolutely come around and yell at you about this. And NOTE due to campers LEGAL RIGHTS to have a safe place to camp, if you are forced to park your trailer with your door to the road and not your camp sight, and your trailer awing, or a child is hurt or you fall in your camp sight because you have no light from your trailer being its faced the wrong way or you are forced to run your generator in your camp sight you have EVERY right to legally sue for unsafe camping conditions. I love this place but am VERY picky as to what sight i camp in, because you camp in the wrong sight like 14/15 you will get yelled at and you will be forced to park your travel trailer in a unsafe manner.

Great campground with nice hiking trails.
But generators ruin it.
Every morning and every evening are ruined by the roaring sound of generators.

It was peaceful and the fellow campers were polite. Park Rangers drove through frequently and were friendly.

I hope the direction of parking will be reviewed. Opening your door into the "flow of traffic" as the park director called it makes no sense when you have children going in and out of the camper. We truly enjoy Black Butte, and for years we have parked against the traffic flow in the center section (wrong of us we know) but the door opening into the street does not make any logical sense.

Buckhorn recreation area camp spot is a wonderful place. It feels like you traveled for days to get to the peacefulness and tranquility that exists. The dark skies full of stars, the bird watching are magnificent. I love stopping at Buckhorn every year. Only 8 mi from I-5 - yet no traffic, no airplanes, no trains, just quiet.

Only problem was that the restrooms were closed and there was not water service. Camp sites were clean.

The showers are only cold! No hot water like in the past! The tv dump station is closed down. They have changed the direction of parking your tv, now the door opens up to the street. Very dangerous for small children going in and out of trailers.

Beautiful time of year to be at Black Butte. The park hosts were friendly and the trails and grounds are well maintained. Unfortunately the showers nearest us had no hot water and there was no dump station available. These should be maintained and available even during the fall and winter.
