Buckhorn

It was peaceful and the fellow campers were polite. Park Rangers drove through frequently and were friendly.

I hope the direction of parking will be reviewed. Opening your door into the "flow of traffic" as the park director called it makes no sense when you have children going in and out of the camper. We truly enjoy Black Butte, and for years we have parked against the traffic flow in the center section (wrong of us we know) but the door opening into the street does not make any logical sense.

Buckhorn recreation area camp spot is a wonderful place. It feels like you traveled for days to get to the peacefulness and tranquility that exists. The dark skies full of stars, the bird watching are magnificent. I love stopping at Buckhorn every year. Only 8 miles from I-5 - yet no traffic, no airplanes, no trains, just quiet.

Only problem was that the restrooms were closed and there was not water service. Camp sites were clean.

The showers are only cold! No hot water like in the past! The tv dump station is closed down. They have changed the direction of parking your tv, now the door opens up to the street. Very dangerous for small children going in and out of trailers.

Beautiful time of year to be at Black Butte. The park hosts were friendly and the trails and grounds are well maintained. Unfortunately the showers nearest us had no hot water and there was no dump station available. These should be maintained and available even during the fall and winter.

Originally in spot 9, but it wasn’t level enough so we moved to spot 7, called reservation.gov & rep was great & moved us. Problem was with the guests in spot 14, as he ran his generator non stop from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., spoke to him about it & stated he used a c-pap machine, thus the need for the generator usage. Those c-pap machines can be used with a battery. Per the rules, quiet hours are 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and they are NOT enforced by the ranger or camp host, as no one came through the camp sites to patrol the area during the quiet hours. Spoke to camp hosts Saturday a.m., they were nice & understanding & stated they would speak with the ranger at their 10 a.m. meeting that day, but stated if the person had a medical card, there may not be anything they could do. Not sure of outcome as we left a day early on Saturday about noon. Also there was no hot water in the showers next to spot 8 & could not locate trash cans to place garbage into. Nice campground for fall or maybe spring camping, but it would be very warm/hot in the summer. Need to update policy on quiet hours & generator usage, especially if person has a medical issue (and they should have to provide documentation to the camp host or ranger) when checking in. The camp host or the ranger manning the entrance gate should advise campers verbally of all rules (quiet hours, generator use, etc.) when checking in to stay in the campground.
