Johnny on the spot comes frequently to clean the port a pottys since the restrooms are closed. The lake is low on August. Better to go in the early part of summer.

They shutdown the Buchhorn Camp completely last year for “repairs”.
Now, it’s much worse than before. Not only were there not any repairs done, but now the bathroom facilities are shut down, no on-going maintenance, or clean-up to sites from prior campers.
There aren’t any “hosts” as there were in prior years to help.
Also, the wind generator that I’ve only seen operating once since it’s installation, and a power generating hydraulic dam a mile away….is replaced by a rented (for over a year now) power generator that drones 24/7 over the camping area.
The place has never been this bad….but hey, the staff got a new office facility!

Good lake views, large site, parts are shaded through out the entire day.

I paid for 2 nights and only stayed one. Once the sun went down there were THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of cockroaches EVERYWHERE, big and small, no exaggeration. Also 2 baby rattlesnakes just feet away from the campfire- which is scary but doesn't bother me like the overwhelming amount of roaches. We slept in the car and left as soon as we woke up. I wanted to refund the second night but decided not to bother.

The place it self is nice except for our neighbors partied at 1am. And we could hear generators on for all night.

Camp site was good, but noise was ridiculous. Group campground across the street literally played non stop live (no joke they had a whole instrument set up and different singers) rock/metal music from 9am to 1am both days I was there. No breaks, and no experience. It'd be one thing if they were decent, but they were not.

Overall, this was a beautiful campground with an amazing view and a great location. The scenery alone made the stay worthwhile, and it was a peaceful area to camp.
The biggest downside was that the water spigots and faucets were shut off. Not having access to water made camping much more difficult and definitely impacted the overall experience.
If you're planning to camp here, be aware that it's also a very windy area, so make sure your tent is well secured—especially if you're using a larger tent.
For anyone relying on cell service, T-Mobile is really the only carrier that worked consistently. AT&T and Verizon had very limited and spotty service throughout the area.
Overall, I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars. The views and location are fantastic, but the lack of water and the consistently windy conditions kept it from being a higher-rated stay.

"Honestly, just go somewhere else."
This campground is definitely not worth it. We went there for a getaway, but the bathrooms were out of order the whole time. It's impossible to focus on spending quality time together when you don't even have working restrooms. There are so many better options out there—definitely pick another spot for your next trip.

If you like rustic camping, this is it. No frills, but great views of the lake. We've gone on day trips several times and over night RV camped twice. We'll definitely go back next spring.
