Enjoyable trails with nice camping area. Clean washrooms and well maintained grounds. They had some power and water issues but setup a big generator to provide power while they worked through the issues. They have a big wind generator and solar panels but the wind generator appeared to be halted. Crazy windstorm overnight with wind so strong that I had trouble walking around. I look forward to returning on the summer with better weather.

site was closed. we had even verified a few times, i think the web site linked 2 locations to Buckhorn. they sold us a reservation for one and set us up for another that was not open. i don't even know how to dispute, it was not a good experience and i have low trust in this system.

This campground is in a beautiful setting with a huge area of native oak savannah, great birdwatching, and trails. HOWEVER, there is a loud generator running 24/7, right adjacent to the campground, which totally ruined our experience. There is no warning about this on their website, or we would not have come here. In a normal campground, generators are required to be turned off during quiet hours, and this one is significantly louder than any RV generator. We were told it is to run the bathroom. Really? Install a vault toilet and let people use a flashlight. The bathroom is run down anyway (plumbing issues) and needs an overhaul.

We love visiting Buckhorn as the facilities are always well maintained. The exception is the ongoing use of a large, noisy generator. This has been an issue for several YEARS now. I understand it's use as a temporary stop gap for the water situation, but it electrical issue should be fixed. It really distracts from the point of camping with peace and quiet as this generator runs 24/7.

The Army Corps of Engineers is a noteworthy organisation, but Buckhorn Lake park does not reflect this. The bathrooms are foul, the showers are more or less unusable, the water pressure is low, and many of the bathrooms have only emergency lighting. The tables are effaced and could use a good cleaning. The railings and steps are decayed. Yes, it is cheap, 20 dollars, and formerly 18 dollars a night, but one does not want to stay since it is so dismal.

The sites were awesome! However, the toilet facilities were not! The bathrooms ran out of toilet paper on the second day of our trip and we had to go into town to buy some for the next two days. One of the toilets in the main bathrooms was clogged in the men's bathroom and unusable. No one came around to check them or clean during the period we were there.
On the bright side we didn't allow that to affect our time there and had an amazing time! The sites were clean and the camp was awesome!! We will be back again!! One of our favorite places to visit!! Thank You!!

The Buckhorn Recreation Area is a quiet and convenient place for an overnight stay, especially for those visiting Lassen Volcanic National Park. Although there is no electricity at the campsite, this doesn’t pose a significant issue for most visitors. The facilities include a clean restroom with water and lighting, as well as a shower room, which adds convenience to the stay.
It’s worth noting that only one area within the campground allows for car camping, so be mindful of this when making reservations. The lack of generator noise contributes to a peaceful atmosphere, making it easy to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.
Overall, Buckhorn Recreation Area is a great option for a tranquil overnight experience close to nature, with easy access to essential amenities.
