First off this lake is not what it used to be , I've been coming to this lake for over 25 years , used to be quiet and they had a person at the booth that would take your money and give you a campsite , Now you have to go online and jump through hoops to make a reservation then pay online , covid is over take payments at the booth !!! OK now to my rant when i made reservations online which i hate i told them i want a quiet place for me to sleep , it was 8pm so they said they will give me campsite 18 and they said there was 200 feet in both directions from the nearest campsite ok fine paid for it online , go to the booth to check in and the guy which was a very nice person said campsite 18 was already booked and reserved ( nice going online booking guy) so after about an hour of the very nice person at the booth trying to figure out what's going on he had no choice but to find me another campsite which he did and only had one campsite as a choice so is said ok which was campsite 14 !! right in the middle of every load mouth camper , I am not blaming the nice guy at the booth it was not his fault , so i go to campsite 14 and tried to sleep HA not a chance too many people talking at 10 pm very loud talking ,so i got fed up and left , googled free campsites and found peace in haven at cowboy campground this place is so unreal quiet , black butte lake used to be like this place very quiet and they even had a free campground which i camped at many times but times have changed .

Very nice clean campground. Beautiful view of the lake and many hiking trails. It was very windy the 2 days we were there so be aware of that possibility.

Buckhorn camp grounds at Black Butte lake is a pleasant place to camp, picnic, swim and water ski among other activities like fishing and hunting. And it's a short 15 min. drive back to town for gas. food, groceries and supplies.

Clean and well maintained camps. Great stop off I5 north or south bound. Black butte lake is great. The buttes surround the lake and are beautiful.
