I have camped here over a dozen times and love it. The staff and volunteers at this park are very professional and helpful. Eastman Lake is one of the best run parks/campgrounds I have ever visited. The park is beautiful and abundant with wildlife: coyotes, turkeys, eagles, rabbits, bobcats, etc.
The best time to visit is before Memorial Day and after Labor Day. It is blazing hot and dry (100Β° and up) in July and August with sparse shade available, so itβs better to camp elsewhere in the summer.
If fishing or boating are your thing, Eastman Lake really delivers. The best time to visit for boating is in the Spring when the lake level is high. The lake level can sometimes be quite low by the end of Summer.
Note that camp is rather far from town or any services. The closest gas station or market is 30 minutes away. Also note that even though it appears close to Yosemite on the map, the drive from this location is 2+ hours on narrow forest roads each way. This campground is not an ideal base for Yosemite visitors...it is better co camp closer to YNP if that is your destination.
Weekends can be noisy. There is a group camp adjacent to the family campground that they rent out. Group camp sometimes hosts 100+ campers and this can get quite noisy, especially when group camp uses amplified music or sound equipment. Last autumn a church group rented group camp for a full week overlapping my stay and they blasted church music and preaching across the campground between the hours of 9am and 9pm. It was anything but peaceful, so your mileage may vary if you are unlucky to book during a group camp week.
The Wildcat campground is a hidden gem. Although it lacks hookups, the campsites are beautiful and some have amazing views. The Wildcat campground has fewer visitors and is more private, too.
Most of the campers who stay here are nice, friendly and courteous.
