What Guests Are Saying
Fremont Campground offers a peaceful atmosphere with friendly and helpful camp hosts, well-shaded sites, and abundant wildlife. While there are no flushing toilets and some sites may be hot or slanted, most visitors enjoyed their spacious spots and the close proximity to the river for swimming. However, some guests experienced issues with bees and noise from traffic, which may detract from the overall experience.

This was my 2nd time staying here. The first time only 4 of the 15 sites occupied. This last time maybe 13 of the 15 sites occupied. It’s a beautiful location and close to a lot of different things to do or visit. I’ll be back again.

The wildlife is pretty and I enjoyed the bonfire. Port-a-potties are the only restrooms, so brace yourself.

The campground was clean and the host was helpful, but the only bathrooms were 4 porta-potties. Thankfully, they were well-maintained and surprisingly clean. The campsites were spaced apart nicely, which was a big difference from the nearby campgrounds where the sites were packed tightly together. The Santa Ynez River swimming holes are most easily accessed via the Red Rock/Gibraltar Dam trail, but you'll have to drive there from the campsite and pay $10 to get in. If it's a weekend day, be sure to get into Red Rock before 12 pm; the second day the rangers were turning everyone away or telling them to hike in or around to find other water access. Be wary! It's a 5-mile hike to the Red Rock trailhead from the entrance, and the road is narrow and dangerous (obviously not meant for hikers). The next day we got there early and drove in. It was extremely crowded and we had to hike about 1.5 miles to get to a swimming hole that wasn't packed with people. But, it was totally worth it! The river and mountains are beautiful, and the weather was wonderful. I would definitely go again.

Fremont is a great campground, with lots of open space and trees. We will assuredly be back.

The fact that the site is across from a ranch means that the amount of flies is almost unbearable even with bug spray and candles. This site is also extremely dusty. The only decent part of the trip is that the camp sights are spread far enough apart. Also if you want to go to the beach or experience nice weather this park is in a canyon which traps heat.

Campground was neat and orderly. The camp hosts were very friendly and informative. During our stay, there were several campsites that were not reserved. The camp hosts happily allowed us to move camp sites to be closer to the facilities. Overall, the site was great, facilities were clean and the scenery was beautiful. If we are up in the area again, we will certainly be back at the Freemont Campground.
