What Guests Are Saying
Dinkey Creek offers a beautiful natural setting with excellent hiking opportunities and friendly camp hosts who provide helpful service. The campground is well-maintained, and many visitors appreciate the spacious campsites and clean facilities. However, issues such as the lack of functioning flush toilets and potable water have caused some inconveniences, alongside noise from generators and nearby campers. Overall, many families enjoy returning to this campground for its charm and the memorable experiences it provides.

My family and I visit Dinkey every year, we love it! The new camp host and staff were extremely nice and friendly. They checked on the bathroom multiple times a day and always had a positive attitude.

This review is for site 50, loop E at Dinkey Creek Campground during my stay from Monday July 22 - July 25, 2024. Overall, I was happy with the site, but there are negative things you need to know before you select this site.
First, the good things: The campsite is huge and largely isolated from the other campers. This means that even though the campground was sold out completely this campsite remained pretty quiet and almost unobservable from other folks. There is plenty of space and several flat locations to pitch a tent. The picnic table was mostly level and there was a good (unmelted) fire ring. Dinkey Creek is very close by and is fun to wade in.
Now for the other stuff: There is almost no shade. The only shade is provided by tall trees with tufts of foliage near the top (like a Sequoia tree) that give a lollipop shade on the ground that moves throughout the day. Regardless where you place your cooler, it ends up in full sun unless you move it 20 times per day. The highs every day were over 90 °F, and it was too hot to hang around at camp.
The reason the site was so isolated is that it is 50 vertical feet lower than the road and 100 yards distant. I was full-on car camping with a lot of stuff and this meant a lot of trips back and forth (and up and down). Too much. Also, you are very far away from the toilets which would be a problem for the ladies.
Lastly, the fire ring has a cooking grate, but it's much too high in the air if you use charcoal. It would only be functional if you were cooking over a big wood fire.
I recommend this site only for people who wants to do lots of hiking before they begin their hikes, and if you stay when it's not so hot like spring or fall

My favorite activity at Dinkey Creek is swimming in the creek. The water isn’t deep at all. And you can see the creek floor in some areas.

Everything was great until Friday afternoon when it seemed there were no rules for the number of people, tents, cars, quiet time and animals off leash. We left (thankfully) early Saturday morning so not sure if anything was done about the large crowds at each campsite. I understand a group site can accommodate more than a regular site. Very disappointing. Maybe the camp hosts have the weekends off.

The value isn’t there any longer. Price goes up and services go down.

Been going camping at Dinkey Creek for the past 40 years, always have a great time making memories. Camp grounds, restrooms are always clean. Roads could use some work but I know that cost money.
