We planned our week at Fallen Leaf to occur before school let out so that the campground would be quieter and less busy.
The lake was cold and clear and perfect for kayaking. Drop your gear off at the bottom of the trail then park in the day use lot. That saves you from having to carry your gear all the way.
The showers were a nice feature. Buy tokens from the gate. They’ll buy back the ones that you don’t use.
Definitely coming back again next May!

The road leading to the campground is very treacherous filled with many holes. We disconnected our tow vehicle prior to traveling down that road. Once arriving at the entrance they wanted to charge me an additional $9.00 a day parking fee because the tow vehicle was not attached to my RV. I explained that to the gate person what I had done and entered the campground. Shortly after that a campground maintenance-man arrived and began to call me a lair and demanded I return to the gate and pay an additional $126.00 for a parking pass. I spoke with the campground supervisor and paid for a day parking pass. For the entire time 14 days someone showed up at our campsite and also waved us down while driving through the campground and demanded to see our current parking pass. They were beyond unfriendly towards us and being called a lair in front of my grandson is not what I would call a good experience. I have been going there for 50 year now and this was the first time that I have had a bad experience.

Camp site was clean and bathrooms were clean and the check in out process was great. Super helpful staff and the grounds were beautiful as always.

Bears seemed out of control. 4 incidents in 2 nights including one coming up behind us at night and another jumping in our car the second we opened it — all while strongly obeying the bear box rules. I understand we’re in their space but they were totally desensitized to humans. It certainly wasn’t cute and it cast a negative light on our experience. Sorry but the situation is out of control and it’s clear that management is not in control of it.
Otherwise the lake is pretty and the grounds are clean.
