What Guests Are Saying
Meeks Bay Resort is praised for its beautiful location near Lake Tahoe, clean facilities, and friendly staff, making it a favorite spot for families and campers. Many visitors enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, lovely beach, and well-maintained campsites, with some returning for decades. However, there are concerns about noise from nearby roads and overcrowding at campsites, along with issues related to staffing and amenities that could use improvement.

The phone number on the website had a recording that they were closed for the 2022 season - it is 2024 it also said that Recreation.gov was handling the reservations. Recreation.gov said that Meeks Bay Resort was handling reservations. I went to Meeks Bay Resort on my vacation and you could not pay at the resort, it had to be done online. After finally being directed to the correct website I was able to make my reservations. My only complaint is that even with my Senior lifetime pass it still cost me about $140.00 for three nights in a tent site. I love Meeks Bay because it has its own beach a few minutes walk from the campground. Keep an eye out though, I had a couple of visits from a black bear, he wasn’t threatening, I just scolded him like I would do my dog and he went to visit a neighbors campsite. He ran off when she yelled at him too. I will probably return next year even with the cost of the campsites.

great stay. Horrible website. Spaces empty all weekend and showed full.

We have been on a camper van trip from the UK around California. Meeks bay was one of our most disappointing campgrounds. Overall it is attractive and close to the lake. But also close to the road. Not very tranquil. Also it is set up for massive RVs - so if that is what you want then maybe it does the job. But it’s not quaint and pretty like so many of the sites in the state.

My brother, a friend and I all went and it was a beautiful campsite. The process of registration was easy and gave so much information that it was easy to pick a site.

I would trust the other reviews. Most of my 1 star is based on the treatment by the hosts and those living on property.
Pros: The facility was fine, close to the lake with access, showers were warm and available, bathrooms clean. Did not personally see a bear but a neighbor mentioned it once during my stay.
Cons: having one of the hosts start cussing at you while you drive because he didn’t see you and walked into an incoming car, not being able to find a host to check in for 20 minutes after arrival, campsites are very close together with little option to place a tent. Low cell reception except by lake
Road noise is a little loud around 6am but is expected due to proximity of campsite.
Overall I would choose a different campground next time that is not run by an apparent family.

Our cabins sat almost right on the beach. The staff at Meeks Bay is awesome and helped us with everything we needed especially Jeanne, what an exceptional manager. Thank you for a stay at one of Tahoe’s best kept secrets. It was fabulous.

This was our second year there. The prices went up, and the services went down. The bathrooms were not cleaned or stocked. And they don't allow dogs-which is fine, but it helps with the bear problem if there ARE dogs to guard our things.

Beautiful beach, but they charge $55/night and don't clean or stock the bathrooms. Place has gone downhill.

Too pricey for overflowing portapotties, and dirty bathrooms with no paper towels or toilet paper.
