About Meeks Bay Resort

NO PETS ARE ALLOWED ANYWHERE AT THE RESORT! Meeks Bay Resort has a long tradition as a family vacation and holiday retreat. It is located on western shore of the famed Lake Tahoe (Da ow aga), far away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The Washoe Tribe has been a part of the Meeks Bay area of Lake Tahoe (Da ow aga) for many millenium. Their link to the land is an important part of the Meeks Bay Resort charm. It is the perfect spot to recharge those drained reserves and immerse oneself in the spectacular rustic environment.    Enjoy the sandy Meeks Bay beach, or rent a kayak or paddle board and venture out onto blue waters. Explore the hiking trails that lead both north and south along the lake as well as the Meeks Bay Trail which climbs into the Sierra Nevada Desolation Wilderness Area to Phipps Pass and beyond. For more details download the document available from the US Forestry Service.   The Resort has abundant Day-Use parking and a grill for the hungry camper. Stop by the main building for supplies, toys and clothes, and perhaps a chat with one of the Washoe Tribe members.  The resort offers all levels of vacation facilities from the historic Kehlet Mansion and the Washoe House, several cabins and lodges, full hookup RV spots, and standard tent campsites. Many couples have begun their wedded life together and families regularly hold their reunions at the Resort. Group reservations can be made on Recreation.gov or by phone to the call center.   Meeks Bay Campground is now an integral part of the Meeks Bay Resort. NO PETS ARE ALLOWED ANYWHERE AT THE RESORT!

What Guests Are Saying

Meeks Bay Resort is praised for its beautiful location near Lake Tahoe, clean facilities, and friendly staff, making it a favorite spot for families and campers. Many visitors enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, lovely beach, and well-maintained campsites, with some returning for decades. However, there are concerns about noise from nearby roads and overcrowding at campsites, along with issues related to staffing and amenities that could use improvement.

DO NOT GO HERE!! We booked last minute because a spot opened up for one night. When we arrived they didn’t have our name which was fine, so i showed the reservation and they checked us into our site. When we arrived at our site, it was occupied. We returned to the reception building as the woman at the front gate said we might have been double booked. At the reception desk they confirmed we were NOT double booked and that the person at the site should have left the day before. The receptionist said to “just move their stuff out of the way” and “let us know if they come back and have an issue”. We were skeptical but decided to go back and look. They had a full set up, including the bear box completely stuff of food and personal belongings. We did not feel comfortable just putting the food on the ground along with all of their belongings. We also did not want a confrontation. The camp hosts should have removed the person on the day of their check out.. or at the very least offered to come over and pack up their stuff. I took a bunch of pictures and tried to go back to reception but they had already left for the day with no contact info. We decided to leave and find a hotel since all other campsites nearby were full. Absolutely ridiculous. I also asked for a refund and they denied it. The whole situation was just incredibly odd. Beware.

After going to Meeks Bay camping for over 20 yrs. I will never go again. The no dog policy is stupid and ridiculous. Also the cost for camping there is just as ridiculous. Shouldn’t be over 35.00 to 40.00 a night. Bears were always a problem but the escalation is probably due to lack of monitoring the camping folks during the day. Seems the hosts only want to set in the booth collect money and play on their cell phones. They need to get off their ass and monitor the grounds warning people to keep food out of cars, tents and campfire rings. We had so so many very enjoyable times at Meeks Bay very sad the way things have been managed their after Covid I guess.

Meeks Bay Resort is awesome, 5 stars, but the new reservation system has serious issues they need to fix, so that's the reason for 1 star. When booking, you only pay a deposit, which is typical. Instead of collecting the remaining amount on check in, you have to pay the rest 30 days in advance or your reservation is automatically canceled. This happened to us, and someone took our spot before we noticed, so we had to scramble to find open sites and we ended up away from the rest of our group we booked next to, and had to pack up and move sites on different nights.

Since recreation.gov manages reservations, the staff said they couldn't do anything and were not helpful at all, even though they told us this has been happening to multiple other visitors. Hopefully they can change how the system is setup to make it work differently because it's really frustrating to plan a trip 6+ months in advance only to have it change last minute.

Upon arrival, day beach users were set up on our picnic table, another party was chilling with their vehicle parked in our campsite. The bear box was filled with trash from the previous campers. The bathrooms were trashed, the sinks did not run with water (only one sink worked, running scalding hot water). Music was played until 3am by other campers, as if we were at the club. The campfire smoke smelled like burning plastic, all night long it weighed heavily through the trees (most likely due to campfires not being deluged by water as an appropriate campfire should be cared for). This is not camping, this was the worst experience camping I have ever had! The beach was so crowded, trash everywhere on the grounds, zero respect for personal space by other parties. Do not recommend this campground.

We didn't even stay for our first night. We had 2 bears in very close proximity. One climbed on top of our picnic table and both were walking around the campground. My kids were really shook up. We had to leave after setting everything up but still paid full price. Needless to say, not what I had in mind....

I recently booked a tent site at 005. for July 4 through July 6, 2024. Im rating this a three star because I've always enjoyed Meeks Bay since i was a kid. First and foremost the staff could have done a better job of keeping the general store stocked with supply's and the overall cleanliness was not acceptable. The floor was dirty with stains and the windows on the fridges were dirty with handprints. There where boxes unpacked and sitting on top of each other in the sitting area. The beach and grounds had trash left from the 4th. The bathrooms close to the campsite where not accessible due to plumbing issues. As a Washoe Tribal member I was embarrassed to see how our resort is being ran. Tribal members and our guest pay good money to stay here!!

Recreation.gov let me book a tent site when I clearly filled it out as a 17 ft trailer. When we arrived they wouldn’t let us park a trailer there stating it was against state law. We had to find another campsite a weekend away from Lake Tahoe and make new plans cause of this website issue. She issued a refund but was not sympathetic at all! This after driving through scary mountain passes all day. Not happy

We could not have enjoyed our stay here anymore! It was amazing! The campsite was well maintained and clean. There is access to the beach right from the campground. There is lots of shade and the campground is surrounded by trees. WARNING ⚠️ our campsite was visited by a few different bears each night of our three night stay. You are in bear country and they are not afraid of humans. Be sure you follow the bear safety rules and lock up your food.

We recently stayed at the Kehlet Mansion for 5 nights with my extended family. Our group had 8 adults and 5 kids. We overall had an amazing experience. The site itself is like no other. You are surrounded by beautiful lake tahoe on all sides, as the house is built out on a point. The views are incredible. We made great use of the firepit, dock, and private beach. There is an outdoor shed and mud room that was perfect for storing bikes and paddle boards.

The house itself is rustic. With a large group, there were many creaks and squeeks as we all moved around. Something to consider if you are a light sleeper. The beds are small, but most rooms would have enough space for an air mattress if you wanted the house to sleep more people.

We were comfortable and happy with our stay. Meeks Bay Management was responsive and helpful with our needs.
