About Meeks Bay Resort

NO PETS ARE ALLOWED ANYWHERE AT THE RESORT! Meeks Bay Resort has a long tradition as a family vacation and holiday retreat. It is located on western shore of the famed Lake Tahoe (Da ow aga), far away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The Washoe Tribe has been a part of the Meeks Bay area of Lake Tahoe (Da ow aga) for many millenium. Their link to the land is an important part of the Meeks Bay Resort charm. It is the perfect spot to recharge those drained reserves and immerse oneself in the spectacular rustic environment.    Enjoy the sandy Meeks Bay beach, or rent a kayak or paddle board and venture out onto blue waters. Explore the hiking trails that lead both north and south along the lake as well as the Meeks Bay Trail which climbs into the Sierra Nevada Desolation Wilderness Area to Phipps Pass and beyond. For more details download the document available from the US Forestry Service.   The Resort has abundant Day-Use parking and a grill for the hungry camper. Stop by the main building for supplies, toys and clothes, and perhaps a chat with one of the Washoe Tribe members.  The resort offers all levels of vacation facilities from the historic Kehlet Mansion and the Washoe House, several cabins and lodges, full hookup RV spots, and standard tent campsites. Many couples have begun their wedded life together and families regularly hold their reunions at the Resort. Group reservations can be made on Recreation.gov or by phone to the call center.   Meeks Bay Campground is now an integral part of the Meeks Bay Resort. NO PETS ARE ALLOWED ANYWHERE AT THE RESORT!

What Guests Are Saying

Meeks Bay Resort is praised for its beautiful location near Lake Tahoe, clean facilities, and friendly staff, making it a favorite spot for families and campers. Many visitors enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, lovely beach, and well-maintained campsites, with some returning for decades. However, there are concerns about noise from nearby roads and overcrowding at campsites, along with issues related to staffing and amenities that could use improvement.

Meeks Bay is a great place to camp, the sites are fairly big and you are close to the most beautiful beach on the lake.

We had a Family gathering with a wedding reception at the Kehlet Mansion Sept 2023. While the view and being right on the lake was spectacular, the internet was minimal and audio/visual was a struggle. Also, plan on bringing in your own wine glasses (there were 3 glasses) as well as extra plates and glasses etc. Not enough for the amount of the 7 bedrooms the place has.

This home is marked as a "historical site" and therefore they are not allowed to do any upgrades. The oven and stove were very old and our caterer had to use the two barbecues provided to do a lot of the cooking for the party. Also, some of the windows don't close or don't have screens and we did have a cute little chipmunk in the house. They really need to upgrade the bathrooms as well; they were very old (but good water pressure).

It was clean and the maintenance guy helped us out a lot.

Beware! Booking this place is like a scam! They charge you "total" price as advertised and extra hidden fees come up to 3 times more, totaling over $400 per night. Avoid at all cost!

Sadly, the only value in this reservation was the view of the beautiful lake and use of the beach. “Customer service” was absolutely the worse we’ve experienced anywhere. We arrived early and were told to come back at 3:00 check-in because they hadn’t begun cleaning, when according to the reservation site, the unit hadn’t been occupied for several days before and there was no cleaning crew in the unit.
Lodges are in desperate need of updates. Lodge 8 had a moldy shower curtain and no screen on bathroom window, broken chunks of fiberglass in shower. The carpets were filthy. There was no screen in kitchen window and broken blinds and missing slats in kitchen & bedroom windows so privacy was lacking. Kitchen utensils are far less than basic. There’s no dishwasher so based on the rest of the unit, we washed absolutely everything before we’d use it. There was one roll of paper towels, a small dish soap, and a sponge that had literally been cut in half…cost saving!? Coffeemaker had no filter basket. Bring your own stuff!!
When we checked out and mentioned the condition of the unit, we were told, ”Yeah, we’re working on it.” No “thank you” for visiting, nothing. Took the key and said “you’re checked out”. This could be a gold mine under completely new management and control.

The camping site boasts excellent facilities and breathtaking scenery.
However, I had an unpleasant experience with the staffs.
You won't be helped or even able to catch anyone to rescue if anything happened. Please keep in mind.
You probably will be experiencing complete indifference from start to finish, you are on your own.
When my car got locked out, (the only live person I could find) Cody showed no concern. It was puzzling to see that there was hardly a staff member around, except for the old lady in the laundry room, she is the most helpful person in the area – a rather ironic situation.
I learned that the Manager was out of office until noon since driving to Reno, NV, and he claimed to be under strict instructions not to disclose the manager's contact details no matter what happens. It left me with the impression that even if someone were to be in drowning here, he/they would likely remain apathetic, engrossed in his computer at the store.
