What Guests Are Saying
Meeks Bay Resort is praised for its beautiful location near Lake Tahoe, clean facilities, and friendly staff, making it a favorite spot for families and campers. Many visitors enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, lovely beach, and well-maintained campsites, with some returning for decades. However, there are concerns about noise from nearby roads and overcrowding at campsites, along with issues related to staffing and amenities that could use improvement.

The location of Meeks bay is convenient on the west side of the lake. However the Friday going into a holiday weekend they didn’t bother checking ANY bathrooms for toilet paper. ALL 8 restrooms in our loop were out of Toilet paper. So that tells me no effort was made for days prior. Our campsite had pretty uneven ground with heavy equipment tracks not smoothed out. We genuinely enjoyed our time at Tahoe State Rec, in Tahoe city much more unfortunately because this place seemed to have potential.

Nice place. But unfortunately the staff was very rude and unwilling to help us. Not recomendable.

My boyfriend and I enjoyed most of our stay here. its a great spot to paddle board, we also were in great driving distance of other places such as kings beach, sand harbor, and zephyr cove. very beautiful, lots of nature. however, the showers are not pleasant. other than that, really enjoyed the north campground!

[This recreation.gov website is very finicky and irritating. If I've accidentally posted my review below twice, it's because the website kicked me out of the review before I was finished.]
We loved this place. It's 'Old Tahoe's at it's best. There is still the old charm but has been maintained to remain functional and clean. The fact that it hasn't been modernized and made into a luxury resort is what allows it to still be an affordable family resort. I, for one, really appreciate that. I feel privileged to have gotten to stay here. Getting to stay right on the beach was amazing!
For anyone who thinks modernization and raising the place on the luxury scale is needed, I just want to say, "Please just stay somewhere else." There are plenty of options if that's what you want. By doing that sort of updating here, it would put staying here out of reach of many people and it would (I think) negatively change the resprt's character. I really appreciated that the resort has kept its lodging clean and functional while maintaining it's Old Tahoe charm. Thank you, Washoe Tribe members, for preserving this gem and charging rates that are still affordable for families.
Overall, this was probably the most special place we have stayed at in decades. Thank you for keeping it affordable so we could justify visiting.

Meeks Bay is one of the most serene, beautiful places I have traveled. There is hiking, fishing, swimming or just relaxing. A real treasure.

We stayed in Lodge Room 8 and it was spotless. There is a new hardwood floor, the kitchen was well stocked with utensils and pots and pans the two beds were comfortable. The old walkway is gone and now there are a few steps downs to the new picnic table and two comfortable outdoor chairs to sit in and look at the lake. The staff was helpful and friendly.

Campground was nicely laid out with tent sites around the perimiter so that us tent campers dont have to be sandwiched between motorhomes and RV's. Arrived friday night around 7pm and store was closed so I made my way to site 10 and set up camp. Campground was clean and maintained nicely. Had a quiet night even though the road is fairly close. Problems started in the morning when all the bathrooms were flooded with an inch or more of smelly water. There must have been some sort of backup in the sewer. Ended up having to go down to the beach to use the toilets there and showers were out of the question. Other than that, a good experience. I hadn't realized how far from south lake this resort it because it was quite a drive +30mins from the Y.

Bear Attack was Wack! We were sound asleep around 9:30 when we were awakened when our neighboring campers became quite animated as they talked about seeing a bear who "was in our neighbor's car." I thought, "Wait! I'm their neighbor." So in a mostly asleep state, I unzipped my Jumping Jack trailer tent and stepped out to ask what was going on, and I said, "But my Telluride is locked." I went around and saw that my window was shattered and hanging from the passenger door, then someone said..."There he is!!!!" I turned and the very large bear wasn't very happy with the threat to the food he had acquired from my vehicle (which my wife told me to put in the bear safe vault at the site, but I didn't.) So he charged me and we (the neighboring campers and I) raced to our respective safety. I told my wife...I have bear spray in the car. She said, "But there's a bear in our car!" Over and over we watched as the bear went in and out of our vehicle until I went and got the bear spray and left a path of it to discourage him from coming back! We learned that the bears are in charge at this campsite, so keep your food (including crumbs!) in the approved storage lockers, and assume a bear will want to get in your vehicle. They can open doors, can pull out windows, can steal your candy bar sitting next to while you relax by the campfire. Have fun here, and these bears aren't afraid of you!

Our family get togethers here annually are fun due to having accommodations on the shoreline. It is one of the most difficult to arrange rooms close to one another.
