Sunset campground is centrally located in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in central California's rugged Sierra Nevada range. This campground is at an elevation of 6,500 feet. A number of hiking trails begin within walking distance of the campground including the one mile trail to the General Grant Tree.

Perfect location for seeing both Kings Canyon and Sequoia! Campground was not full. As the name indicates, the campground was great for viewing sunsets. The main drawback was the placement of the tables and fire rings in each site. They placed the fire rings and tables too close to neighboring sites and it felt like we were encroaching on the people next to us.

Sunset Campground was incredible, our spot (41) was absolutely the best spot in the entire campsite when it comes to seeing the sunset every night. We didn’t mind the company, but be warned that if you have a spot along the ridge you will have a lot of people walking through your campsite every night. Plenty of bathrooms spread out with flush toilets and sinks. If you have spare time go to Boyden caverns right outside of kings canyon it was such a cool experience. Also PLEASE make the drive into the canyon, it’s long and windy but so incredibly worth it.

Washrooms can be a bit cleaner and there was no place to wash utensils near our site but other sites had a washroom closeby with utensils wash

We love the spot we camped with friends who got the adjacent site to us. Camp was great, beautiful location, and the bathroom for the kids was close for them to hop over and back.

The only thing for consideration people don’t really adhere to the “quiet hours”. We have grown accustomed in to it when not dispersed camping. All in all one of our favorite spots in California. Already book our next visit.

Conveniently located campground located 1 mile from Grant Grove and across from Grant Grove Village. Many campsites are small and close together, so expect to have your neighbors close by if crowded. Decent cell service at campground (3 bars 5G on Verizon), wifi and supplies available nearby. No public showers at Grant Grove, nearest in Cedar Grove, so plan showers during visits to that part of the park.

Biggest downside is that restrooms were small and infrequently cleaned. I do not think restrooms were cleaned during my visit.
