Sunset Campground (CA)

Sunset campground is a perfect place to stay if you want to enjoy both sequoia and kings canyon National park. Campsites are great only thing I will say are the bathrooms are not clean. It was not a big deal for me but it was not very pleasant for my wife and daughter.

Spot 91- two options for your tent, one a bit close to the fire the other on the far side of the boulders. We went for the boulders. It’s a pretty good campsite, right in the edge of a steep slope. Good for exploring bigger kids, not so for tiny ones.

Tragically, there’s nowhere to hang a hammock at this particular site.

The light from the utility shed was a bit disruptive, but i’m very sensitive to light so you may not find it annoying.

The campgrounds overall were lively and well positioned to explore Grant Grove. Its a nice intro to the park. Less busy than Sequoias, and pretty accessible. Camp store was well stocked, and we enjoyed the visitor center and gift shop. The rangers there were helpful.

Unfortunately, there was no ranger on duty at Sunset and some campers had amplified music well past quiet hours. That was quite frustrating, but also something I’ve come to expect from campgrounds that are easy to get to.

Have fun! Oh- and rhe tandem parking is actually side by side so zero issue. I thought it was stacked which would be strange. Spot 89 is MASSIVE and spot 93 is very similar to 91. Would be a good option for friends who wanted to get neighboring sites.

We had a great time at this camp site. The views were absolutely beautiful. Our neighbors were pretty quiet and very friendly. The bathrooms were clean.

The sites were very small and so close to the next campsites

Had a wonderful stay, clean campground surrounded by lots of trees.

We had a good time and were able to watch the beautiful sunset view by walking over to space 35. There wasn’t too much shade at our space but we it’s okay since we didn’t stay there too much. We went to Tokopah falls, Moro rock and other places

It was great at 128 but the restroom do need a little update.

Beautiful campground and site, conveniently located close to the bathroom. Unfortunately, some other campers were not following camping etiquette. There was loud music during quiet hours all three nights we were there. The trash dumpsters were also overflowing, and the bear locks were not engaged, even with another dumpster only about 10 feet away had plenty of room. Overall, a beautiful campground, but the noise and trash situation took away from the experience.

Abundant surrounding of trees providing shade to campsites. Nice bathrooms and tables. However, nowhere near to swim. Sequoia lake private property and Hume Lake unclean.
