Sunset campground is centrally located in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in central California's rugged Sierra Nevada range. This campground is at an elevation of 6,500 feet. A number of hiking trails begin within walking distance of the campground including the one mile trail to the General Grant Tree.

Campsite 97 was awesome...lots of room behind the standard area (with rocks, trees, etc). We actually setup our tent in the back of the site, which gave a bit more privacy and felt almost like backpacking. Only downside was during our time there were a ton of bees/wasps (we were here late in August). Nothing to do I'm sure, but they were super annoying and always came out when food or water was present.

Site 37 was spacious, relatively flat and we thoroughly enjoyed the prime sunset views each night. The campsites on the west side of the campground were spaced out nicely and the weather was absolutely perfect for August camping with temps getting into the 40s for comfortable sleeping weather. Beautiful place to spend a few days!

This is a very picturesque campground. We had a whole section of the campground to ourselves. The facilities are adequate. The only issue was as we cooked, we were harassed by bees...not stung, just harassed.

This was a great site. Other sites were on top of each other but 82 was fairly secluded. Right next to the bathroom and ash removal station.

The major downside is it's infested with bees. Don't know if this is a Sunset issue but definitely a problem at 82. Luckily, the bees don't sting, only swarm and hover. Also, the tent pad is a bit sloped so you many need to experiment with tent placement.
