What Guests Are Saying
Granite Flat campground is praised for its beautiful location near the Truckee River, clean facilities, and friendly camp hosts, making it a popular choice for annual visits. Many campers appreciate the easy access to outdoor activities like biking and floating, and the well-maintained restrooms add to the positive experience. However, road noise from nearby Highway 89 is a common concern, particularly at night, which can detract from the overall tranquility of the site.

The only bad part of Granite Flats is road noise. Other than that it’s a great campground. Short drive to Donner Lake and and about 30 to 40 minutes to Lake Tahoe.

Great campsite directly on the river. Vault toilets but the camp host kept them amazingly clean (saw her cleaning 2+ times a day). Huge shout-out to her. No water/electricity at campsite but had potable water fountains spread through-out the campsite that tasted better than our tap-water at home. Some road-noise being so close to the highway but not terrible. Only issue we had was the smell of cannabis each evening from the large group next to us (but since this is California, not sure what we could have done about it). Absolutely would camp here again if we were in the area. Really easy access to Olympic Village to watch the Western States 100 Ultra-marathon.

Decent clean campsite with easy river access. The road noise was pretty bad throughout the night however. Bring earplugs.

Middle row of campsites are medium tolerable. The highway is very noisy, it's hard to feel like you're in the forest. The sites by the highway are the worst. The sites by the river seem pretty nice, and the river sound muffles the freeway sound. All sites are small. There is also a great little lagoon by the river, where a ring of rocks has created a calmer area for wading that's great for kids. There's also a nice dry grassy bank for sitting. If not for the river and grassy bank, then this campsite would definitely be not nice at all compared to every other place we've stayed at. Restrooms were pretty clean for pit toilets. No wood sold here.

I had an awesome time camping at Granite flat. My kids loved how the river was so close to our campsite.
Only downfall was the cars on the highway. We heard big trailers passing and the lights of the cars reflected at night.
