What Guests Are Saying
Granite Flat campground is praised for its beautiful location near the Truckee River, clean facilities, and friendly camp hosts, making it a popular choice for annual visits. Many campers appreciate the easy access to outdoor activities like biking and floating, and the well-maintained restrooms add to the positive experience. However, road noise from nearby Highway 89 is a common concern, particularly at night, which can detract from the overall tranquility of the site.

Loved that the sites were so close to the beautiful Truckee River! Downfall was that the sites were really close together. We didn't mind the traffic sound from the nearby Hwy, still a peaceful campground. Bathrooms were well maintained and clean which is always a plus!

Campground was not as clean as previous years. Maybe due to budget cuts. We were there for the opening weekend. Lots of branches and logs on the ground from storms. These should have been cleaned up before opening. On the good side, as always there are lots of hiking and biking trails in the area plus nearby Pallisades for live music and Truckee village for restaurants and breweries.

Great little campground alongside the Truckee River. He’s some affection noise from the adjacent highway, but you tune it out pretty quickly.

The camp was nice, and the site was clean. Being close to the Truckee River is a huge plus.

Clean bathrooms, clearly marked campsite, easy access to the river. Easy access (~2 miles) to multiple stores like grocery, camping gear, gas station, etc.
Only downside is a bit of traffic noise which subsides after mid-night.

Granite Flat is conveniently located a few miles out of Historic Truckee, making it an easy drive or bike ride into town. The campground is situated between Highway 89 and the Truckee River, and several camp sites back up to the river. The campsites are clean and well maintained, with large bear boxes at each site. The pit toilets are also well maintained and odor free. There is significant road noise due to the campground's proximity to the main road, and even in October, traffic on 89 is pretty constant. Trees help to block headlights to some extent. That said, Granite Flats is an extremely relaxing, convenient and economical place to stay in the Lake Tahoe area.

This spot is unlike most of the others. The site is described as a ‘pull through’. Your vehicle, Rv, or trailer will be parked parallel to the road. It made it a bit awkward with our trailer as we couldn’t put down our camp rug, or enjoy our awning ‘patio’ due to rocks separating the area from the actual camp site. The site itself is actually quite large and has a length view of the river. Initially I wanted to throw in the towel and say ‘forget it, let’s find another place to camp’. But I’m glad we stayed.
One other fair warning if you have a camp trailer, camper, van or RV there will be outhouse restroom facilities just feet from your accommodations. These weren’t even shown on the map.

Nice enough campsite and I was happy to get something in Tahoe on short notice.
Do NOT be fooled though. This campground is RIGHT next to a busy state highway where people routinely go 60+ mph. If noise is a problem for you look elsewhere. Period.
That said, I hate noise but I did get used to it and actually had a decent time. So there ya go
