Nice spot. Flush toilets were a surprise. Great hike accessible from the campground to Mastadon Peak & Mine from Cottonwood Spring

The campsite was wonderful. My biggest complaint was having to pay $10 after booking to change the date because the tool automatically updated the date to the previous day I wanted to book and I didn't realize it until after I had saved it. I think it's a bit ridiculous to have to pay that if you want to change the booking a mere minute after making it.

This is a well maintained, clean and quiet campground almost exclusively used by RVs. Most sites are not very private and, because of its close proximity to Interstate 10, many sites turn over on a daily basis. However, site A1 is good for tent camping, private, and has a very good view with spectacular sunsets. It's not the best campground for your base if you plan to spend several days exploring the park though, because it's nearly 40 mi just to reach the central part of the park. Also, it's in the lower Colorado desert where there are no Joshua trees.

About 25 mi drive to see Joshua trees at Arch Rock.
Rangers were knowledgable.
