Lovely Campground, but the site was not level (not even close). Tough for a camper van

I have been car camping at Cottonwood several years now and every year has been excellent. One thing different this year
I will comment on is that due the lack of rainfall this winter/spring it is very dry, almost no wildflowers anywhere. The campsite
was clean as usual a great experience.

The new moon night sky was stunning.
One night there was a special visit by pack(s) of coyotes. They drank from our dog's water dish but didn't disturb anything. Wide variety of vocalization...unforgettable.
If neighbors forget to keep their noisemaking down in the later evening, it works to have a gentle but firm chat with them. They can opt for backcountry camping instead of the campground if that suits them better.

A bit far from the main section of the park but a beautiful, quiet campground! There is a visitor center right near the entrance with a gift shop and hiking info. Campsites were nice and not too cramped, water easily accessible, and nice bathrooms.

This was a great place to start our wonderful time at Joshua Tree National Park. We had a nice level spot with good views and stargazing opportunities. We could have done without nearby generator operation after approved hours and amplified music, but it was mostly a distraction and we enjoyed our time there.
