Many campers appreciated the beautiful natural surroundings and the cleanliness of the restrooms. When it said hike-in campground, we expected to have a little distance from our site to others. They were right on top of each other.

We had a walk in campsite (#66). Be aware that these campsites are very close together. Our tent was mere feet from other tents. There was shade and a level place for our tent, as well as trees for hammocks. The sites behind us were smaller and sloped off pretty quickly. We only slept here and then were gone all day adventuring in Yosemite, so we didn't mind the closeness except for lack of privacy and noise. Bring ear plugs! The potable water spigot was really high and you had to hold your water jug up at an awkward angle to fill. Recommend a wheeled cart for water transport, since the bathroom is in the center of several sites, not accessible by car. Also recommend a kitchen sink/plastic container, since they don't allow washing of dishes at the bathroom and you have to transport gray water back to the flush/drain at the bathroom. Temps were very comfortable in early July (90 in Yosemite Valley vs low 50's at night at Hodgdon Campground). Definitely bring warm layers.

Great little campsite. We were able to fit 2 4-person tents and hang 2 hammocks. The sites here are small and right on top of each other, but the campground wasn’t full and everyone was quiet and respectful of quiet hours so it wasn’t a big deal. The rangers were very friendly and helpful. There is no firewood for sale, you can collect your own, but if you want big logs you’ll have to stop at one of the shops outside the entrance. I would stay here again for sure. This campground felt like a hidden gem in Yosemite.
My one complaint was the fire ring at this site. It’s very tall with a double grate. It was difficult to get a fire started and maintain it.

The sites are close to each other, and ground is quite sloped. The site next to us had 15 people, and they started cooking at 10pm. That said, I didn't mind these problems at all, these are not deal breakers for me.
This site is 8 miles from Tioga pass. Merced Grove and Tuolumne Grove are nearby. Visitor center is practically within walking distance. Yes, it is kinda far from the Valley, and also kinda far from Tuolumne meadows, but location-wise I was pretty happy.

Great spot on the outside of the park. Near the sequoias and comes with flush toilets

After-hours check-in—which is as early at 7PM—is easy to do. Only downside of the campsite is that some sites do not have level ground, so be aware that you may have to employ strategies to level tents or your sleeping area inside them. If you are driving to the valley floor, try to get there before 9AM so as to be able to find parking easily.
We booked our site only the week before, which is astonishing in the summer rush. If you are available in the middle of the week, I'd suggest trying for Yosemite camping then, as it is far more open than weekends.

Most of the site is slanted, and there is no privacy, but it works perfectly as a basecamp for your Yosemite Adventure. It's a beautiful 40ish minute drive into the valley, just make sure you get to the valley early to get a parking spot and then utilize the free shuttles to get around.
