About Elk Creek Campground (Rio Grande Nf)
Elk Creek Campground is located in Conejos County, approximately 23 mi west of Antonito, Colorado. Located in the lower portion of the Conejos Canyon a short distance from Highway 17, it is an easily reached destination for visitors to the area. Elk Creek runs alongside the campground. The elevation of the campground is 8.5 ft.

Beautiful campground in a lovely place. Mixture of sun and trees. River and creek right there. Well spaced sites and restrooms were clean. Hike up to Duck Lake was nice.

We had a good tent camping spot, but it was far enough from the creek that we couldn’t hear it. It was unfortunately a very dry year and not much water flowing. Campsite was clean, and we appreciated that there was minimal 4-wheeler activity. Good hiking nearby. No luck fishing in the Conejos, but the water was sure clear and setting beautiful. Didn’t ever see any humans at the camp host site, but they must have been around someplace because they replenished the TP in the very clean bathroom.

We've camped at this campground five or six times. In the past, the camp hosts were friendly and visible, checking and cleaning newly vacated sites, cleaning and restocking the restrooms often. Not this time. The hosts were mostly not at the campground, but left a useless sign that said they could be reached on walkie-talkie channel 12. Great for somebody who had a walkie-talkie... not so much for those of dealing with almost no toilet paper and no hand sanitizer. Hope our next visit will be better.

Highway access
Elk Creek Campground is accessible via US 285, which is approximately 0.3 miles from Antonito, CO. From US 285, travelers can take Hwy 17 to reach the campground.
Policies & Rules
Arrival & departure
- Reservations are held until the day after your scheduled arrival; failure to occupy results in cancellation with no refund.
- First-come, first-served campsites are available but not guaranteed.
Utilities
- Trailers must be filled before arrival; filling at hydrants is prohibited to prevent water contamination.
Site types & loops
- Off-road vehicles are not allowed in the campground.
- Livestock and horses are prohibited in the campground.
Site capacity
- Single site reservations accommodate 6 people and 1 vehicle; up to 8 people and 2 vehicles allowed with additional fees.
- Double site reservations accommodate 12 people and 2 vehicles; up to 16 people allowed with additional fees.
Cancellation policy
- Reservations cannot be modified by the camp host; changes must be made online before check-in, with a 7-day refund request window after check-out.
- COVID-19 policies are in effect; reservation holders will be notified of changes and may receive refunds for delayed openings.
Safety & rules
- A maximum stay of 14 days is enforced; longer stays within 30 days are prohibited.
- Check weather conditions before arrival as they can change quickly.
Fires & fuel
- Firewood should not be moved; obtain it locally to prevent the spread of pests.
