About Mogote

Mogote Campground is located along the Conejos River, making it a perfect location for fishing and hiking. The pleasant campground is well shaded by groves of ponderosa pine and a mixture of cottonwood, spruce, willow and aspen. The campground is also in close proximity to the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, home of America's highest and longest, coal fired, steam operated narrow-gauge railroad.

We stayed here after riding the Toltec & Cumbres Scenic RR. It's about 15 mi west of Antonito. We stayed in the upper level and had no problems with insects (a few flies). The sites have plenty of space around them and are fairly level. There were more mature trees than I thought from the photos. We will come back when we can stay longer. The camp host, Blue, was very helpful.

Site 26 was wonderful. The whole park is wonderful, peaceful & quiet! The nearby river was fun to cool off in & the water was cool, not cold or freezing! Blue (camp host) was very friendly & gave us a lot of great info! She kept the bathrooms clean too!! Our site was only .6 mi from the main highway, gravel roads, but not bad for my Class C RV!

A beautiful, secluded campground right on the Conejos river with great access to the river for fishing. It has big, mature trees that give each campsite privacy. There is easy access to potable water and toilets.

Mogote is a hidden gem. It was one of the very few sites in Colorado that I could reserve the week before July 4th. I was not expecting much since it was such slim pickings. However, I was very pleasantly surprised when I arrived. The site is calm, provides lots of privacy, and has a beautiful river running alongside it that is easy to walk to. My site in particular (Lowe #22) was incredible. It had the perfect space for a hammock and the tent location had no tree cover (even though we were surrounded by trees) so we could see the stars at night through our tent. We were a very short walk away from the river which we visited several times and I even took a dip into because it was such a hot day.

Take note that you will likely have no cell phone service if you use Verizon. I had to drive 7 mi toward Antonito before I regained service. In my opinion, not having service isn’t a downside of camping here. It helped me disconnect from that world for a while and focus on making memories.

Arrival & departure

  • Reservations are held until check-out time the day after arrival; no refunds for no-shows.

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.

  • Single campsite fees cover 6 people and 1 vehicle; extra charges apply for additional guests and vehicles.
  • Double campsite fees cover 12 people and 2 vehicles; fees for additional guests and vehicles apply.

  • Reservations cannot be modified by the camp host; cancellations and refunds can be requested online within specified timeframes.
  • COVID-19 policies may affect reservations; refunds are available for delayed openings.

  • Off-road vehicles are prohibited on the campground grounds.

  • Bring your own equipment for volleyball and horseshoes.

Utilities

  • Electric hookups are not available at this campground.
  • Fill trailers before arrival; filling at hydrants is prohibited to protect the water system.
