About Mogote

Mogote Campground is located along the Conejos River, making it a perfect location for fishing and hiking. The pleasant campground is well shaded by groves of ponderosa pine and a mixture of cottonwood, spruce, willow and aspen. The campground is also in close proximity to the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, home of America's highest and longest, coal fired, steam operated narrow-gauge railroad.

What Guests Are Saying

Mogote is praised for its clean, spacious campsites and well-maintained bathrooms, with a welcoming and attentive camp host, Sam. The beautiful river and serene forest setting enhance the camping experience, making it a favorite for many visitors. However, numerous reviews note a significant mosquito problem and mention that entrance road conditions could be improved, alongside the need for some facilities to be updated.

Quiet and clean facilities - the lower campgrounds are close to the Conejos River, rumored to be buggy part of the season. All in all, very enjoyable.

The spacing of sites is very good. mostly quiet, some "Jake Brake" noise from hwy 17. Sam, the host was friendly and informative I rate him tops.
Site 21 should have its own entrance. someone in 21 will block 20.

The camp host, Sam, was great. He cared about his job, making the facility as clean as possible. The bathrooms close to space 3 were bad. The ventilation system was poorly designed and these vault toilets need to be replaced. The campground was well laid out, the sites have lots of privacy. It is a beautiful area. After Mogote we went to Datil Well in Datil, NM and the difference between vault toilets was amazing. The new generation of vault toilets should be copied at every older facility.

We have been to Mogote many times and it never fails to please. The camp host this, Sam, was especially courteous and the grounds and facilities were spotless. And extra credit to Sam for the cinnamon scent in the bathrooms - first time I've experienced this and it's a brilliant idea! Can't wait for next year!

We've stayed here several times. The upper loop is our favorite, it always seems to be less crowded.

Campsite was clean; toilet closest to us was atrocious. Never saw the camp host in our two days there. Probably won’t go back.
