A favorite campground over the years. Only disruptions: "jake brakes" on trucks coming down CO 17 from La Manga Pass and tne adjacent landowner conducting extensive target practice.

Elk Creek is a scenic, very pleasant campground that is convenient for riding the train -- from either direction. Tickets for the Chama side go quickly so get them well in advance -- weeks, not days. I was impressed with the extra long picnic tables that had a cut out area for wheelchair access. That also made it easier to cook from a campstove set on the table; truly a win-win design! We are planning to return for another visit.

We really enjoyed this campground. We had site 15, I believe, and would choose it again in an instant. Sites are spread out far enough to enjoy the solitude. Love how level the sites are and the obvious work that has been put into making each site a nice space for whomever is camping there. We used it as a base to go on four wheel drives in our Jeep and enjoyed those very much. Worst thing, through no fault of the campground, was the mosquitoes. They were just swarming when we were there and seemed immune to bug spray!
