Our campground was right next to another where our friends were and there was a natural pathway through the trees to the road at our campground. In the pathway were sawed off branches; twice, the camp host (we believe) camp and asked that we would not walk on that pathway. There were pathways at many other campground that were not being 'protected' in this way. Anyhow, having children with us, this was a completely unrealistic expectation as this was the closest pathway to the road. We would have been happy to walk to the road from our campsite, but the measurements for the campsite were definitely incorrect as we barely fit our camper and truck, so the truck made it really difficult to walk from the campsite to the road. Unfortunately, the interactions with the camp host felt tense which made impacted our time here.
We have had a camper for over a decade and have not encountered such frivolous tension before.
Furthermore, both the bathrooms and water hook-ups were closed/not working. I'm hopeful that our campsite fee was reflective of these closures.

We actually stayed at Little Mattie because the Forest Service needed to repair the well in Little Maud. They moved us to Little Mattie, but we had a great experience. The camp hosts were friendly and helpful, the campground was quiet with plenty of shade, and the bathrooms were clean. We would definitely camp here again.

The campground host was excellent. She was very professional and friendly. She checked in with each patron when they checked in to communicate the campground rules and any wildlife nearby. The bathroom was super clean! It was cleaned multiple times a day. She kept a close eye to make sure campground rules were followed and allowed campers to completely enjoy the experience! I would highly recommend this campground!!

Take I-70 west of Denver to Glenwood Springs Exit 116, Highway 82 to Basalt. At Basalt, take Frying Pan Road 15 mi to the Ruedi Complex Entrance.
Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
