About Redstone

Redstone Campground is set amidst a scattering of aspen groves on a ridge above the Crystal River at 7,800 feet, creating an ideal setting for guests seeking recreation and relaxation in White River National Forest. Sites in the campground are widely spaced and offer wonderful views of red rock outcroppings and cliffs, though an understory of tall grass and a scattered forest provides plenty of privacy.

There was only one water pump working on the entire campground, and the showers weren't available.

Awesome area off the grid. The location is near Redstone and Marble. Carbondale is only about 20 minutes away if you need real supplies.
Easy walk down to the river with a small beach. The sites had good privacy from each other, albeit not much shade. The bathrooms were super clean composting toilets with zero smell. Showers were available on one side of the campground, but were temporarily shut on our side. The campground hosts were super friendly, too. I took off a star for the road noise from hwy 133. It was on the other side of the river, which helped, but if you are in a tent here, I recommend ear plugs.

This campground is very pretty. However, this site is not meant for tents. The wind was so bad I couldn’t set up the tent because there is no tree cover and the wind rolls right off the mountainside and straight down onto these sites. There were no other sites available at any campground around the area otherwise I would have moved. When we arrived the campground attendant came by to tell me the wind was really bad and that hopefully it would die down in the evening. So after trying to set up for about a hour I gave up and left to check out the area. We came back near dusk and set up the tent with my truck parked right next to it to block out some wind. Then, around 10 pm, the wind picked back up and it continued its madness into the morning. Needless to say, I packed up, ate breakfast and left without staying the remainder of our booking. We will not be returning to this campsite and wish the park had a disclosure for tents at this site instead of finding out the hard way.

    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
