About Redstone

Redstone Campground is set amidst a scattering of aspen groves on a ridge above the Crystal River at 7,800 feet, creating an ideal setting for guests seeking recreation and relaxation in White River National Forest. Sites in the campground are widely spaced and offer wonderful views of red rock outcroppings and cliffs, though an understory of tall grass and a scattered forest provides plenty of privacy.

The camp hosts were the best - grateful for their knowledge of the area. The campsite were nicely spaced apart. I wish the showers were running. The town of Redstone was an easy mile walk from the campground.

Great hosts, well-maintained and clean campground with lots of nearby hikes, water activities (Paonia State Park, natural hot springs, etc) and close access to grocery stores in Carbondale for supplies as needed.

The Redstone Campground in the Crystal River Valley, near the Village of Redstone, was a pleasant place to spend a few nights. Our campsite was private yet convenient to campground facilities. As other reviewers have noted, many campsites are 'paired', so that two campsites share a driveway, and basically are one big campsite. These would be great for two families camping together, but would not be so great if you pulled in to camp next to a complete stranger. The showers were still closed (May 22-25, 2021). There were toilets, water sources, and dumpsters for trash located throughout the campground; actually, I've never stayed at a Forest Service campground that had so many of these so close to all campsites. The campground hosts made the rounds at least 4-5 times/day, and kept the toilets and dumpsters in good order. There's a path from campsite 27 that leads into the Village of Redstone, about a mile away. The Village is quaint and picturesque, and has a good pizza restaurant as well as a general store with ice cream and other treats that you'll not readily find nearby other campgrounds. The least expensive place for firewood was the City Market in Carbondale. The river is a relatively short walk down the hill from the campground, so fishing is right at hand. The Crystal River Valley is beautiful and quiet. The traffic on the nearby highway is minimal; you likely won't hear any cars as you sleep. All in all, a beautiful campground that we look forward to visiting again.

Be aware that there is not an rv dump station in this campground. As far as I know, the closest one is in Rifle, about 40 miles away.
