What Guests Are Saying
Thunder Ridge Campground is praised for its beautiful setting, clean facilities, and friendly hosts, particularly Jan, who provides excellent service. Campers appreciated the well-maintained restrooms and the peaceful atmosphere, with many enjoying nearby hiking trails and the stunning reservoir views. However, some noted challenges with site sizes for tents, difficult access roads, and occasional strong winds, yet most expressed a desire to return.

Despite being woken up by a bear in the middle of the night, we had a good experience in this campground, especially considering we survived it. The place is beautiful! The toilets amazed me for how clean they were considering they were not flushing toilets. There was a sign saying the restrooms were cleaned 3 times a day and I believe it. It smelled good and it was very clean! We stayed on campsite #11, which has a beautiful view for the lake. It got super chilly during the night, which was expected for a campground at the top of a mountain. The huge downside was the bear experience. There were signs everywhere saying there were bears around. Thank God we read all the information and were able to do the things that made the bear go away. If you do not want to take the risk of having a bear experience, I would suggest you not to come to this campground.
Pros:
- beautiful place
- sites have plenty of space, ring fire, and picnic table
- clean restrooms
Cons:
- bears might visit your tent at night
- no showers or flushing toilets
- host was not on duty during our stay
All in all, it is a great place. Beautiful and clean, it is a nice campground! If it were not for the bear experience, we would have enjoyed it even more.

We stayed at #10 mid-late summer. Beautiful view of wildflowers and Aspen in the valley below. There's a trail a few sites down, take that straight all the way to the lake: crystal clear water. You can also take the trail around the lake to the large rocks on the other side, but be aware that the loop trail is 13 miles, it looks shorter than it is.

We have a 1995 camper and Thunder Ridge was our first choice of camping site. It’s only 2.5 hours away from Denver, which seems reasonable if you don’t have time for longer trips and still want to a get away from the big city. The camping sites are clean, organized and very friendly. You can hike, walk around the reservoir or just take the time to relax.
Definitely recommend it! We are coming back soon!
